Two loads for 243

Oddball here

Im going to be the oddball in the bunch. I tried a few of powders at a few different charge weights in the wifes .243 Savage when I was trying to work up a load using 100 gn Sierra GK.

I had almost accepted defeat after trying 3 different powders when I looked up at my pound of H1000 on the shelf and said heck, why not. Much to my surprise it shot 1/2 MOA out to 200 yds with a charge near the listed max on Hodgdons website.

I will say there was no Varget in my area, so I have no experience with it, but hear good things. By some chance though if you are like me and have a pound of H1000 laying around for you magnum cartridges, dont look past it.

Also, I really like Sierra GK for the .243 deer load, its hard to beat the price:performace ratio on sierra. Then Nosler Balistic Tip or Hornady V-Max for a 'yote load.

Speer 85 gr BT a CCI 200 primer and 36 grs of IMR 4064 is one of the most accurate loads in my Sako Finnwolf.

Sometimes that's the way it goes. A couple years ago when you could barely find any powder anywhere I was forced to use H414 for 100G Sierra Prohunter. I was happy when I found a load that worked for a hunting load and grouped a little under 1" at 100 yards.

I have tried; Varget, IMR4064, IMR7828ssc, IMR 4350, RL 19 in my Vanguard with the 85 Partition and the 90 Accubond

I've found that with my rifle, IMR 4064 and the 85 grain and IMR 4350 and the 90 grain is the tops. They actually shoot to nearly the same poi (the groups are about .5" apart). I plan on swapping the AB's out for the BT to save a few pennies.

Groups on both of these are sub-.5" groups at 100 and the AB's hold that type of grouping out to 500 yards
