Two years ago I lost (knocked down but did not recover) a very nice 8-pt on opening day of muzzle-loader season. Opening day of gun season I missed a truly huge 10-pt. Last year I never got a shot. All I saw was yearlings and small bucks. I had one little fork buck that I saw nearly every time I was in the woods last year.

So I was excited for this season and a chance to end that drought. Due to family obligation I missed open weekend of muzzle-loader season but got out this weekend, the second weekend. Success was had.

We had to field dress him where he laid due to the steepness of the terrain. He weighed 152 lb field dressed so an estimated 190-200 lbs live weight. Green scored ~120 if scored as a typical 8-pt.

The muzzleloader used was an old Thompson Center Big-Boar 58 Cal shooting 300gr HP/XTP in sabots pushed by 90gr of FFg black powder. Shot was ~40 yards and he ran about 60 yards from the hit.

I looked back through my game camera archive and found at least 60 images of him. Interestingly, despite having eight cameras out on the property he only shows up in two of them.
