Store clerk opens fire on would-be robber

(12/25/02) — A would-be robber is now in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital after his victim fought back.
Police say the suspect pulled a gun on a convenience store owner in southwest Houston on Synott near High Stars Tuesday night.
The clerk had a gun in his pocket and he shot first, hitting the suspect twice in the chest. Doctors expect the suspect to survive.
Officers caught a second man a short distance from the scene. They say he was the getaway driver, but he took off on foot when he heard gunfire.
