I have a TZ99 that I want torefinish. It is a steel slide and an alloy frame. The slide is really no problem, but I'm not sure about the frame. What would be the best, easiest, cheapest way to do the frame? I had considered stripping, polishing, and clear coating the slide and finishing the frame in a mat black. However, I'm not sure how to do the frame. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Why not just Cerakote it?
This is what I would do.

Cost should be around 100-120 bucks to have someone do the work.

You can buy duracoat or a couple other options that are pretty easy and durable.

I've used ceramacoat on a few pistols and.other stuff and it's held up pretty well.

Or even 200-300 bucks if you have a wife that will let you use the oven.
Go to HobbyLobby and buy a decent spray gun ($75) and spend $50 for paint from Cerakote.

Then you’re like a guy who’se been taught how to fish....

Oh, and the $150.00 it will cost for the trip for the local red lobster equivalent so you can stay married...

Gunkote, Cerakote, Duracoat or Norrell's moly resin. I like Norrells, although there are fewer color options than the others.

Unfortunately, if you don't have a way to bead blast it, you're not going to get good DIY results even with a quality HVLP gun.

Having it professionally done is gonna run you anywhere from about $80 on up, depending on color(s), patterns & what you send to them. A single color and sending in a stripped frame & slide will be most economical, while sending the whole gun in for something like 4 color Kryptek is gonna get pretty spendy.

I guess my refinish job doesn't look so good. The pics were taken after I stripped it, brushed the aliminum frame, and cold blued the steel slide, levers, and hammer. Ooh well! Back to the drawing board.

I actually think it looks fine, at least for the guns intended purpose.

I have to do a some durcoating in the next week or two. If your willing to tear it down, i can blast and coat the parts besides the frame, in black or fde from the leftovers of that project if you like.

Another option might just be to have a local paint shop shoot a decent 2 part paint on it for you. Probably have to still do all the prep work yourself.
