So I acquired a u.s Springfield 1903. I'm looking for some info. Should I be shooting this or leave it locked up serial# for rifle is also marked on bolt? Any ideas

Your semi-secret serial number indicates manufacture in 1924 or 1925.
The serial number scribed on the bolt indicates that it was issued to the Marines, or just possibly that it was a National Match gun. Is there a little star on the very muzzle?

There are many variations & rebuilds. The serial number on the bolt can be a sigh of rebuild or a match rifle? I am no expert.

You need to look for other marking on barrel, stock & receiver. Photos would be best, if an expert comes along and see this thread.

I would have a gunsmith check headspace before shooting. There is no protection from a failure as small as a ruptured primer. Pressure will hit you in the face.

Get us some photos-because we love photos. [:)]

They built around a couple million 1903, so they are not excatly rare. Most soldiered through two wars and having been stacked in barrels and racks in hardware stores and the like for many decades. Thousands were chromed as Drill Team rifles. So, condition and appearance tend to be what the recommendations come from.

But, even a pristine example can be taken out to the range for a bit.
