You guys are the best and that's why I continue to rely on your expertise.

I am still entertaining a Dragoon-type half-octagon/half-round barrel

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=788834&highlight=1849+Pocket+Dragoon+Barrel

using a Uberti 1849 Pocket Pistol w/4" barrel. I would like a 5" but I have never seen one. I don't own any Uberti's, Pietta does not make one, and I don't want to take any chances on a used ASM with possible action problems.

I can strip the barrel of the load lever/rammer and drift out the lever catch and have my machinist neighbor turn the barrel. Easy squeezy.

Question: how is the pin post front sight removed? Is it pressed or threaded?

I would hope it is threaded as I should be able to obtain a replacement from VTI or Taylors.

If pressed, it would have to be drilled out and a piece of brass brazing rod (or another Uberti sight) silver-soldered in place.

Any suggestions appreciated and thanks in advance!

Jim

No one has any comments? I would have thought some of you folks would have some experience with Uberti pistols.

Have you bought the gun yet? What's your intended purpose for it? Target shooting, show piece, small game?

Buy the sight, that will tell you how to get it off the barrel. That's what I did for my 1860 Army repro. It may be different for different manufacturers. On the Pietta or ASM, the sight may be swaged in, on the Uberti it may be screwed in, I don't know.

Geez, that's some logical thinking. I wish I had thought of it first. :banghead:

Thanks Crawdad.

TruthTellers: Just a pipe dream for now. Mostly a show piece but fully functional.

Thanks to all!
