Ultimate Range bag?

Great points...not sure ‘minimalist” was the right term...

I do have different bags that serve different purposes...meet different needs. But I generally use the smallest bag I can...

I maintain all my range gear in the large bag...and transfer stuff to the smaller bags whe I use them
Point I’m trying but failing to make is OP needs to figure what his needs are...and go from there.

I have many. All shapes and sizes. Bought in the initial throes of novicedom. I hate them all and wish I had my money back. I generally carry a nylon gimme bag from Sports Illustrated and throw all my hazarai in it; topsy-turvy. All those little pockets drove me nuts.

So here is a normal range trip for me. Revolver with 100rd plastic ammo box. Semi auto with 2-3 100rd plastic ammo box. 22lr with various ammo, 223 bolt gun with about 100rds of various ammo, ear muffs, targets, mags for both rifles and handgun, glasses, Allen keys. I want to start keeping a small cleaning kit with me so while say the 223 is cooling down I can clean pistols or vice versa. I found a really nice Molle style large backpack for $20 at a local thrift store I am debating on going back for. I have to walk about 150 yards in the grass and mulch to shoot pistol, 25 and 50yards so carts aren't going to help. I have a tote now that I drag out of the truck bed and put on a table but I want to get away from that. I want organization. I don't want to carry 2 different pistol cases, ammo cans, bag with magazines, etc.

I am thinking the Molle backpack would be good because I can buy Molle mag holders and attach them to carry my mags, small pouches for cleaning stuff and just fill the inside large portion with targets and ammo.

I have one of those with all the holders and I think that it would be great for someone who would actually use them. You sound to me as if you would. I like the backpack aspect (a whole lot) but I am just not that organized so I ended-up having to dig around all over the place to find what I needed. Way too many compartments and zippers for me. I carry two pistols of different caliber (each in a zip rug), ammo for each in plastic boxes, extra magazines and speed loaders in a nylon zip, headphones, glasses, a small first-aid kit in its plastic box, wipe rags, targets, a good multitool with a knife, pliers, scissors, etc.... and a bottle of water. Everything is pretty much self-contained in my bag so the nylon zip duffle works for me right now. I think I don't like my backpack because the straps right at the shoulder are stiff, stiff, stiff. I think I paid maybe $35 for it on sale. I would consider a broken-in, used one in good condition at a good price, no problem. Try it on. Good luck. I think a range bag is a very personal thing and important in the scheme of things.

Well, I've taken a step away from the ultimate range bag ... though I still have my big beast and it's still stocked with all the accouterments for an extended outing or a match, etc.
But, for the indoor range literally a mile from my place, it struck me as silly to keep toting the big bag to run a handgun or two for an hour of lane time.
So I picked up a smaller one -- a Glock promo type deal for for $25 -- and put in eyes & ears, a basic boo-boo FAK, a few basic small tools, couple pens, & a notebook, hand wipes, a few gun cleaning items, etc.
Still plenty of room for a couple 9s and 200 rounds. It gets its maiden run tomorrow. I'm off work this week, and every day's a range day. ;)

I have a range box that holds my steel and hangers, tarps and other large items. it's lockable, and my range bag and smaller firearms for inside.
I also use a range bag that holds almost everything I need besides a gun. I carry a separate ammo can most of the time tho....
I'll take pictures later....

What is your ultimate range bag? I am getting tired of dragging a tote around with targets, ammo, etc. I want something I can load up several hundred rounds of ammo, ear muffs, screw drivers, cleaning supplies, targets, glasses. Maybe a Molle backpack would work?
how about a shoot case ? Husky from Home Depot

I like the GPS large range bags. Incredibly well made, lots of pockets and pictograms of what is in each pocket which is super convenient.
