I just received my Ultradot Matchdot yesterday and finally managed to look at it tonight. I noticed what I think is a flaw.
The dot is not round. It has what looks like a "comet tail" coming from the right side of the dot. It is there on all 4 dot sizes and at all brightness levels.

Has anyone else noticed this?
Suggestions?
I bought it from UltraDotWest, and have contacted them a few minutes ago. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has had this problem.

Could be your eyes....
Astigmatism can cause this effect, sometimes I notice it in certain llght conditions such as inside but it doesn't bother me shooting outside for some reason

Is it the same with both eyes or if you squint?

A good dot like UltraDot shouldn't display that comet tail quality too much compared to lesser models.
I would consider my options too if I really felt that it was the fault of the scope.
If you blink fairly rapidly in succession about 6 -12 times, the clarity of the dot should improve even if only temporarily.
Sometimes learning to blink with the dominant viewing eye at regular intervals helps to keep the dot sharper and in proper focus.
Does doing that improve the sharpness of the dot for you at all?
How about trying that with the level of brightness turned down to only the brightness level needed?
I usually keep one eye closed too.
But if the quality of the dot continues to irritate you then you should consider sending it back.
Maybe you would benefit from having different reticle styles to choose from besides just dots.
For instanc,e electronic crosshairs are my favorite and that's mostly why I like my Sightron model with 4 reticles. :)

I tried it indoors just before I posted this- at night.
When I tried it today outside it seemed to improve.
This isn't my first reddot- I have a couple of Leupold/Gilmores and a C-More. All have round dots.
I will try it at the range and see how it does.

Thanks,
Jim

I have an ultradot just like yours and inside I cannot get rid of the comet shape. Outside, it appears perfectly round. I was told this is normal, but I am disappointed with that aspect of the site. I am only a occasional target shooter, so I live with it.

Leadhead nailed it.
When I first checked it I wasn't wearing my glasses. I am very slightly near-sighted. I actually test at 20/20 but I see better at a distance with prescription lenses.
When I checked it with my glasses on there was a nice, clear round dot.
I shoot with my prescription glasses anyway- they have polycarbonate lenses, so it isn't a problem.

Now, I just have to wait for the next bullseye match to try it.
I have a feeling I will be buying another Matchdot in the spring.
