Hello!
I just got a 454/45 Super Redhawk Hunter w/ 7.5" barrel mostly for deer hunting, but also for occassional hogs, black bear, and moose.

I am practicing w/ iron sights, but am pretty sure my best move is to mount a red dot. I plan to get either a 1" Ultradot , or the Ultradot 30mm.
I already have used 1" ruger rings. Given their condition (sturdy, but clearly used) I doubt ruger will exchange them. 30 mm rings cost $80 for a pair!
Is it worth it to get the Ultradot 30mm over the classic 1" Ultradot?

If so, why? Why not?

Thanks!

Also, best all-purpose bullet to use to make re-loads for this gun?
Best for Deer? Best for larger for both 454 and 45LC?

There was an article in the most recent issue of the NRA's American Hunter magazine about handgun hunting, in which the author mentioned using an Ultradot 30 atop a Ruger Bisley Hunter. He seemed to have excellent success with it.

I have a 1" ultra dot on my super redhawk for the last 8 years. It has worked great as long as you keep good batteries in it.

Thanks guys,

I ordered the 1" UD. Seemed silly to pay $80 for new rings, and then more for the 30mm. If I find it insufficient after a year, I can always mount the 1" on something else, and get the 30mm rings and UD then.

I have a SRH in 454 with 9 1/2 " barrel and my favorite load is a 300 grain hornady xtp mag jhp over 30 grains of Lil Gun with Winchester Small rifle primer . great flat shooting ,hard hitting ,accurate round . It will keep everything inside your dot at 100 yards with your ultradot ! Make sure you you get the xtp mag bullets they make both ! Kevin
