Unexpected Felines

So far, that's been my experience too, but that experience is with bobcats and lynx. My son saw a cougar on his Grampa's farm about 6 miles north of here. It took off when they locked eyes. Probably for the best as he had a .22 Iver Johnson, he was checking his traps. As had the cougar been doing.

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Kinda reminds me of the time my wife and son-in-law were deer hunting up in the hills 3 or 4 miles east of here. They spotted a couple of wolves. This was several years before wolves were re-introduced in Yellowstone, let alone re-introduced in Idaho.
We reported the sighting to the Idaho Fish & Game Department, but like you said, they kind of "poo-pooed" it, saying my wife and son-in-law had probably just seen a couple of large coyotes.

Yeah well, as Northwest Montana native, our fish and game lied for years about the re-interduction of wolves. The flat out lies shifted to half truths after a Forest Service worker creamed one with his work truck.
