I just got done shooting some of my newest target loads.
I took slightly used 44mag brass, 11 to 11.5 gr of Unique, 240gr cast lubed bullets from the gun show and CCI or win standard primers. I put a good seater die crimp on there, just because thats how my dies are set.
They were a little smokey, gave a good powder burn, low muzzel flash, mild recoil (for a 44mag). Gun seamed at least as clean as any factory lead bullet.
These are milder than any factory 44mag rounds I have shot and are much hotter and cleaner burning than any 44spl round I have used.

For 45ACP I pick up range brass, prime them with the same standard primers, I use hard cast-lubed or plated 185gr bullets and drop a 7.5gr to 8gr charge of Unique and always hit it with a mild seater die crimp.
Muzzle flash is small, smoke isn't bad with plated bullets they seem to be as clean as any white box, non premium factory ammo.
I load tons of these and they are just about full power so work up a load accordingly. I would hate to have a bunch of half powered, dirty ammo, that could be prone to jams and have SHTF.

For 30-30 I pick up my brass, load them with standard primers, 7 gr of Unique and use 123gr 7.62 (yes they are .311) cheap-o winchester SP bullets.
I can only load these 1 in the mag and 1 in the chamber because they are so pointy.
I drop the same load (some times I bump it up +1gr) and use 150gr hard cast (.309'') flat point lubed bullets.
Kids like these. I don't load very many of these rounds, maybe a box or 2 at a time. They are low power and the 150gr bullets sound like they are subsonic with a 7gr charge.
I might try to load up some with (.308'') 150gr FMJ-BT with 8gr next time I can go shoot my long guns. Just because I got a bag of them for free.
The Unique 30-30 loads burn a little dirtier than any standard factory round, no shock there.

I have a lot of Unique so no need to be stingy and I am always trying to find new ways to use unique and I never load high volumes of any thing that doesn't at least fill the case about half way (to remove the chance of 2x charging).
About the only thing I don't load load unique in is 5.7x28mm. I have read too many stories that didn't end well.

Any one have any odd or standard Unique loads?

Have also used Unique for almost 40 years. 7.0gr behind a 200 FP in ACP, 10gr. behind a 275LBT in LongColt, 9gr. behind a 250LSW in 44Mag.

6.5 + 230 JRN is my .45 ACP load.

7.5 + 240 Keith LSWC is my .44 Special load.

8.5 + 250 Keith LSWC is my .45 Colt load.

Also use it in .380 ACP, .38 Spl, 32-20 WCF, 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 & .44 Mag, and a few others.

Bottom line is you can load almost anything with it.
That's why it is so ..... Unique!

In 45/70 I'll feed my 1895G 350g cast and 12 grains of Unique for 1120 fps. Dang near no recoil and enough 'oomph' to bang the gongs out to 180 yards with a little practice on the drop. It's a hoot to be back on target and working the lever when the gong starts rocking and then you hear the 'booooong'.

+1 on the 7.5 Grains behind the 240 LSWC for .44 Special (Skeeter Load), at 900 FPS. I do 10.5 behind a 255 LSWCGC .44 Mag that will give right at 1100 fps. 5 Grains behind a 158 SWC in 38 Special for a Mild +P loading. All these loads are proven tack drivers and very usable field loads. My saying is I can load decent rounds of any pistol caliber with a pound of Unique and a few rifle calibers as well.

Granted i havn't reloaded in quite some time, the last entry on my reolading logbook was 2003. Yikes,

Ok Well, 9mm 115 hornady JHP taper crimped, 5.7 grains Of Unique.
Standing off hand at 10 yds, Myself and my shooting buddy, both consistantly could hit the close pins.

At 25 yds, we both got the tightest groups of any loads we tried. Using my Sig 226 and his Beretta 92fs and it didn't matter who shot which gun.

At 50 yds, 4" groups with a sandbag,

And at 100 yds with a sandbag, 10" groups that were 8" low.

In short, I love Unique!

Seems like Unique is for people who don't like to screw around and load up near full power with their pistol rounds.

For me Unique is a good mid velocity "working" load where you don't want the recoil and pressure of magnum ammo. But you want accuracy. To light a charge and Unique is dirty and inaccurate. To heavy a charge and it gets out of it's operating range, then it's time to move on to a slower burning powder..
Unique is my go to powder for 44 special and 357 magnum.

I've been loading Unique in 40 S&W since day one, it gives me the velocity I'm looking for, 1050 fps on 155 gr Ranier's and the accuracy I like, 4" groups off-hand at 25 yards. I've tried other powders, Longshot, Blue-Dot, Universal, they all work fine, but they don't give me a good reason to switch away from Unique, I keep going back to it.:)

I don't try to push Unique, its too fast burning. Its not one for "hot loading".
I have never tried to light load it, but I believe all the dirt I have herd about.

DO NOT USE THIS LOADING DATA has anybody chronoded 7 gr of Unique with 158gr JHP ? I have used this in my blackhawks for about the past 13 years and they show no warning signs. always wondered if i was gaing alot or just waisting my powder

jtuck is right when he wrote:
" It IS dirty if you load too light. "

You load up to a point for accuracy with Unique, as you load past a certain point, it's accuracy drops off. So then you drop back down to whatever was your accurate load.
That has been the consistent experience I have had with Unique in handgun cartridges. I think that is why it has been around for 100+ years.

I shoot pin shoots, my 1" group loads and my tear the pin 10' off the table, is a 255 lswc on top of 5.3 unique. Most accurate "heavy" load I have shot to date.

Now I am trying to get good accuracy with my cz 75b with 124 jrn. I just might try some unique, I have been using 231.

748, the pamphlet that came with my dies said 6.8 was max. I thought it was kinda week, but I didn't want to push it without knowing for sure. I use Unique for all my handgun loads. that way i always know what powder is in the charger
