I took the rifle and brake to another smith. He said it looked like the threads were just under sized on the barrel, he said the brake is in good shape and can be used again. Then I took it to the guy that did it the first time. He humbly asked me to to give him the chance to make it right. I did not want to give him a second chance... He was almost begging me to give him a chance to fix the issue. I told him ok. But take it out and shoot it before you call me when it is done... He Called me the next afternoon saying it was done. So I went and checked it out. it looked much better. He showed me the half empty box of shells test fired with. I thanked him and went on my way.

sounds like he was anxious to own up to a mistake, I am glad he is an individual of character and made your rifle right. To err is human, to act like you did not err is being a jerk. (edited for highroad purposes).

Glad it all worked out. Is this comp permanently attached? It would probably still be a good idea to check the threading... Awesome bipod, btw, is it fairly rigid in use?

Ya, I have questions !

That barrel end has either been replaced- or cut, one of the two. the brake could not have been reinstalled on the same threads... It also does not match the bevel he tried to attain on the first try.... ....how much did he have to cut ? 1 " ? 2" ? Just curious.

I'm glad he owned up, and you allowed him to fix it. Begging is........appropriate.

The comp also looks a completely different color.....did he reblue the whole thing ????????

It does however, look MUCH better.... let us know your shooting results !

You know what I do when things fly off the end of the gun? I figure I didn't really need them anyway.

That was my opinion when the front sight hood caught on a twig and flew off into the underbrush on my first deer hunt. But a threaded muzzle brake? That ought to stay on.

I am glad the original gunsmith made good on it, and I hope the fact that the post opener gave him a second chance that taught the gunsmith a lesson, caused him to see the error of his ways, and repent, and go forth to sin no more.

I took the gun out and shot it today. Everything went good. 5 shots through the chronograph. average fps was 2962. With Hornady superformance 162gr SST. 6th shot 425 yards. 7th shot 625 yards. 8th shot 702 yards. on random rocks. I was glad to see everything working the way it should.
