UPDATE! Traded Springfield GI for Glock 26

Well Folks, I did it. I traded my Springfield GI .45 for a Glock 26. In the other thread I posted, I mentioned that I was mulling trading for a Glock 19. I decided that if I was going to get a Glock, I'd get one that I could easily carry. Glock 26 it was.

I can honestly say after shooting it, that I do not regret my decision one bit. This has to be one of the BEST guns I've ever shot. I was able to put my shots through the center ring at 25 yards (I usually limit my practice to 7-10 yards) and I'm an average shooter. And this was without a grip extension. It's a VERY comfortable gun to hold and the trigger, though different than say, my Beretta 92, is actually very intuitive. I might also add that the Glock 26 is a pleasure to shoot one handed.

For the longest time, I was wary of getting a Glock. I'm seriously considering selling the rest of my handguns, this is possibly one of the best guns I've EVER fired.
 
Let the novelty wear off some before you make such a rash decision....as nice as your new Glock may be, I would go so far as to contemplate a collection consolidation as a result ;)

Didn't like .45 ACP. I prefer 9mm. I wanted a 9mm ccw piece and one that was as reliable as possible. Hence, Glock.

As far as the consolidation, I'm not going to get rid of every gun. I'm basically looking to do something like this:

Rifles: AK-47s and variants. (Not hard to do, since aside form an M95 mauser, those are the only type of rifles I own)
Pistols: 9mm only. I'll probably keep my Beretta, but anything else may be going "Glock" 9mm pretty soon.

We'll see in the coming weeks if my attitude changes. Methinks not. I really love this Glock. I used to be opposed to the things. It took me years to work past the lack of manual safeties, etc, so it's not like a Glock Fanboy thing that causes me to like this gun. I seriously think it's a fine piece of equipment. Stripping it was fun too. I thought my Beretta was simple, but this thing has like 4 major parts.

I call my approach the "HGTV gun approach". My mother always watches shows like "Creating Spaces" and other entertainment that focuses on decorating and organization. I got daily updates on what I should do to my apartment. One suggestion my mother/HGTV had was to give away or sell things that you don't really use or need (as opposed to collecting). The idea is that unless something has sentimental value or you think that it's going to massively appreciate in value; if you're not regularly using it, get rid of it.

Now, I'm sure my mother didn't have firearms in mind and was probably referring to my bursting walk-in clothes closet, but I digress, I think the idea is good. Keep it simple, keep it organized. AKs and Glocks.
 
I'm not a big 1911 fan (sorry all) so I think you did a good thing. My advice is go slow on the HGTV thing. It is not a bad idea but think it through a while. Long engagements make better marriages!
 
you might like it better, but the springfield was probably worth more than the glock. you can get used glocks pretty cheap.

I have a 26 also, but wouldn't trade a springfield 1911 for one
 
Welcome to the dark side. I had added a 1911 to the stable but sold it off to have some extra cash. I don't miss it. I still have my Glocks.
 
I see no reason trading the 1911 was a bad thing. I like mine, but they're not for everybody. I too have come to the conclusion that there is no point in keeping guns you won't use, I dumped 4 a couple months ago, haven't really looked back on it. Everything I kept is either unique in its own regard, of sentimental value, or completely practical to me.
 
I dumped a Colt 70 series, a Para-Ordnance P14, and a Ballerina Molester, all in favor of Glocks.

Don't regret it a bit.

I did keep the Springfield 1911 stainless though. But only because I had Ceiner .22 conversion already in it.

I've never found a holster that would allow me to carry a 1911, and drive a car at the same time, without the 1911 digging into my side in the worst way. Maybe a shoulder holster - if a jacket can be worn at all times.

The G26 is a fine gun.

No disrespect intended for the folks who love their 1911's either. Just not my taste.
 
IMO, the Glock 26 is the brightest star in the entire Glock line-up.. I like 1911s but conceal carry a G26...

Congrats on your 26. The only guns I carry concealed are a 26 or a 19. I've been shooting Glocks for a lot of years. You can't go wrong with a Glock.

And I just sold my stainless Springfield GI to buy a GLOCK 19. :D
 
While the 1911 is a fine pistol, IMHO, the sights on the SA GI are terrible.

My opinion too. I thought the sights were worthless. It might as well have been a beaded shotgun sight.

Now we can both save money on GunScrubber! :D Seriously though, I think Glocks and AKs are the only guns I've ever shot that live up to their claims.
 
If you don't reload, you can save a significant amount of money by buying 9mm ammo instead of 45 ammo in a short amount of time. G26 is a very good choice.
