I happened to notice a lot of oil on the surfaces of my new Lee dies, particularly the powder through die. My first thought was that powder will stick to the oil on the inner surfaces of the powder through die, and possibly contaminate some of my charges. I'm thinking that I should remove the oil, at least from the surfaces that powder could contact. Or, am I worrying about nothing, and inviting rust by doing this?

Clean all new dies. They come oiled up for protection until you receive them.

Remove all oil with alcohol or other oil free solvent.

You definitely do not want oil in the powder-through die, as you suspected, powder will stick to it.
Oil is also the death knell to smokeless powder.

The preservative oil is not good case sizing lube either.
So you want it all out of the sizing die so the case lube can work properly.

Thanks for the replies. I cleaned them in acetone, and recoated them with oil. Before I use them, I'll just swab the parts that contact the ammo or the powder with some Q-Tips and acetone. I'm using carbide pistol dies, so no worry about case lube.
