I recently picked up a Springfield V-16 .45 Super Long Slide. I found .45 Super brass over at Starline but I'm having trouble locating load data for this caliber. Does anyone know where reliable load data can be found?

Those are might slim pickings with no where near the velocities claimed by some boxed ammo manufacturers of 1300-1400 fps. Any other data available?

Thanks for checking it out. I really appreciate your efforts. I had a chance to take the new pistol to the range over the weekend. The factory .45 Super ammo that I tried was very snappy :) even with the ported barrel. Standard .45ACP rounds were very soft shooting and also functioned well.

I have a couple Springfield 1911s quite happy with both of them.
Hope yours works out well for you.

CAUTION: DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS LOAD DATA IN STANDARD .45ACP FIREARMS. THIS DATA IS FOR FIREARMS CHAMBERED IN .45 SUPER ONLY.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The High Road, nor the staff of THR assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.

I was finally able to track down some load data over at AmmoGuide for the .45 Super. I'm going to start working up a ladder test up to this max load listed there:

I've got components on the way and will keep you posted as I develop this load.

Welcome to the very exclusive V-16 club!

Here is some load data for N-350, Power Pistol, AA/7 and HS-7 powder that I got from Triton Cartridge Co.,circa 1999. Hopefully you’ll be able to read it:

The primers were all Federal 150 and the OAL was 1.220. These velocities were from a 5” barrel, so the 6” long slide may be a touch faster. Use a heavy taper crimp according to Triton.

The V-16 is a really fun gun to shoot, but I need three hands to reassemble the damn thing when I break it down for cleaning. That recoil spring is stiff!

Stay safe.

Welcome to the club :)

Did you get both springs for your 45 Super? They do come with 2 springs, one for 45 ACP and ne for 45 Super. I have found if I use the spring for 45ACP with 45Super rounds it is much more snappy.

It only came with one spring. That's a really great point and I remember reading about it. I need to check on that. I'm working on putting some new sights on it. Adjustable ghost ring rear and bead front. The black on black sights are hard to see at my age.

Choice is a beautiful thing. But on such a rare pistol seen in the wild I do not think I would change the sights. Thought painting the front sight might do what you need.

Finger nail polish works well for front sights, is available at most drug stores in a wide variety of colors.
I didn't buy the super deluxe kind and if I remember correctly the bottle of orange I bought was $2.99.

If you are married there may be some around you could try.
You need like 3-5 dabs out of a bottle so a bottle would do one front sight LOTs of times.
