Im just curios what a original Charter Arms Bulldog .44 special model 34431. May be worth. It is in NEW condition, never been shot. In original mint cardboard box and still wrapped in the original funny brownish paper.

Thanks,
J

They bring only about $225 or so even like new in box as yours is.

They were not bad guns, but the .44 never caught on (heavy recoil and "Son of Sam" publicity) and there is almost no collector interest.

Darn little collector interest, indeed. I saw a beautiful nickel Charter Arms with gorgeous custom mahogany factory grips, some sort of factory special deal made up for one of that family, single digit serial number, at a local shop a few years ago. Even THAT one took awhile to sell, at a pretty low price to my mind. I considered buying it, it was THAT nice, but I just didn't really have a place or a use for it, except as a REALLY nice, REALLY shiny carry piece, and I had other carry pieces of a different type entirely at the time. So they CAN be very very nice, but they are not considered on a par with Colts or Smiths, and don't have much of a collector following. I also don't see that changing much; there will always be a few guys who collect them, but if they haven't developed a large following by now they probably never will.

Minor little footnote -- About twenty years ago in college I read Arthur Bremer's diary. He's the guy who shot George Wallace in Laurel, Maryland. He originally planned to shoot him with a Charter Arms revolver, but he hid the revolver in a fender of his Nash Rambler and couldn't retrieve it. So he bought another gun. The original Charter Arms revolver was never recovered, to my knowledge, from the Rambler, and so somewhere out there may repose a Nash Rambler with a Charter Arms revolver in one of the fenders. Bremer was released from prison a little over a year ago. I've been meaning to ask him about the revolver.

Update: I just had to look. According to Wikipedia the Rambler was dismantled after his arrest and the gun was recovered.
