I have the chance to buy one that isn't rough but it isn't perfect. Has some scratches in the butt of the stock and there is some finish missing from the trigger guard and floor plate. I will be using this rifle. I'm not all that worried about the few issues that it has. Seems to either be a 75- or -78 prefix. Made in either '80 or '84. Waiting on a better look at the rifle to tell for sure. It is topped with a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20mm scope. Which I will either sell or trade for something better suited for the .22-250. Can anyone give me an idea of what these are worth? I know the Blue Book values but I'm looking for more of a real life price. Thanks!

Barrett93;

I can't give you a good read on this gun as far as price goes. But, I can tell you that it's somewhat of an odd duck in that it's a "short" barrel and the cartridge wants at the very least a 24" barrel. Most times, a 26" is considered the way to go to get what the cartridge can deliver. For instance, Speer #14 lists a 24" Remington barrel as their work-up platform and Hornady 7 used a 26" Remmie. However, being that it's an International, there is a scarcity factor also.

But, if your intended use is for long-range varminting, there's better platforms out there in my opinion for that caliber. If it's the International you want rather than the caliber, well then go for it.

That's some good food for thought 900F. I do collect oddball Rugers but I also want it to be pretty accurate if I'm going to have a caliber as such

I'd love to get my hands on that one!

With a 63gr Sierra PtSpt over H380, it'll make a heck of a "stalking" deer rifle.
Don't under estimate the usefullness of that scope. I have one. Very good piece of optic.
If it were mine, I'd leave it as-is. Use if for what it is... as stated above.

If you "need" a long-range .22-250, get a Savage/Remington and a decent 4-16x scope. I did. But, I have a Remington Mod-7 in .223 that has killed more deer than most of the other rifles in my collection.
If the Ruger has a 1/12" twist bbl, it'll shoot up to the 65gr Sierra BtSpt. But, any 55-65gr bullet will make it a decent deer rifle.
A friend has a BLR in .22-250. His wears a 2x-7x and it's his "farm truck" rifle. It's killed over 100 coyotes and nearly that many deer.
shot placement, shot placement, shot placement...
