I have a Colt Army Special 38 Special caliber revolver. It is in excellent shape. It has Colt Army Special 38 on the left side of barrel, and I was told it has the original Wells Fargo mark on it. The S/N is 491828. I would like any information I can get.

theres one on guns america auction right now at 350.00 but the auction isn't done yet and i dont know if it has an original wells fargo stamped on it or not.

The Army Special was introduced in 1908 at serial number 291000 that continued on from an earlier model series. Your revolver was made in 1923. Wells-Fargo did use some of these revolvers, but there are some floating around with fake markings. I would find the markings to be questionable unless they were confirmed by an knowledgeable authority, Wells-Fargo, or Colt. In that case the revolver would be worth much more then an ordinary one of the same kind.

In 1927 Colt changed the name from "Army Special" to "Official Police" (same gun though) and continued production of the Official Police through 1969.
