I inherited a .32 long Smith and Wesson revolver. Its in good condition (Has most of the bluing, mirror bore, functions fine) but won't be mistaken for a safe queen.
The serial number is 636451. "# 86900" is stamped on the frame under the cylinder. Don't have a ruler handy but the barrel appears to be 2&1/2 or 3 inches long.
Any idea about the value of this gun and date of manufacture?
Thanks,

David

according to supica and nahas the serial numbers 536685-712953 ran from 1946-1960 with the numbered models 30 and 31 starting in 1961. Yours probably has the rounded front sight.

They have not yet taken off in price but are very desirable to enthusiasts. Most are extremely accurate with .32 long load and will shoot .32 s&W (short) too. Ammunition is readily available and the cartridge responds very well to reloading. A variety of cast and swaged bullets in wadcutter, semi wadcutter and round nose are available.

Greeting's All-

I have a Smith N' Wesson model 30-1 (blue steel) 2" barrel in .32 S&W Long
from 1971 myself. My gun is definitely a 98 per center, and I placed a value
of $295; based on the 2nd edition of Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson
by Supica & Nahas. This should give you some idea as to the value of your
weapon.

Thanks, fellas! I'm thinking of auctioning the pistol off soon. I had no idea what to ask for. Thanks,

David
