Very glad I stayed out of trouble growing up.

I love going into the Shop and walking out in the time it takes to pick it out, fill out the papers + like 3 seconds for th NICS to go through. Clean records are Great!!!!

Being proud of yourself for having no felony convictions is kind of a low standard.

Well i have never been arrested for anything. I have had the chance to use drugs, drunk drive, get caught up in other things that all could have led to a felony, but I stayed away from all those things. Yes I am proud that in the face of peer pressure I have stayed strong

Dont get me wrong im not perfect. Just happy that i stayed out of enough trouble to be able to purchase and conceal

My point was every one commits felonys... just very few are cuaght.

Its not that you have stayed out of trouble, its just you were not cuaght.

Actually, you would be very surprised to learn just how easy it is to become a felon. There are currently SOOOO many ways on record to be charged with and convicted of a felony, that I would be surprised if anyone alive isn't actually guilty of multiple felonies.

This is getting out of hand. Can you name ANY other Constitutional right you loose by being convicted of domestic violence?

Doesn't it have to be DOMESTIC [battery]?

At the Federal level, a conviction for a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence does indeed make you a prohibited possessor. Even an injunction or restraining order (no conviction necessary - so much for due process :barf:) is enough to legally prohibit one from firearm ownership and possession.

Different localities may or may not have their own additional restrictions.

having a restraining order against you also makes you on the no-no list... those you don't even need to be convicted of anything to have placed against you.

A misdemeanor is a lesser crime, and only requires a judge to find you guilty. These usually don't make you lose your firearm rights.
IIRC ANY crime (felony or misdemeanor) with a possible sentence over 1 year will make you a "prohibited person".

I don't know anyone that has not commited a felony.
You need better friends then
A lot of people have that attitude, but I would be willing to bet that you know someone that has committed a felony somewhere along the line and may not have even known they have broken the law. So many very minor crimes have been elevated to the level of felony its ridiculous. For example up until recently in Texas two homosexuals having consensual sex was a felony (along with several other states where oral sex or other forms of "sodomy" were a felony even between married heterosexuals). In some states writing a bad check over a certain amount is a felony, even if done by accident. In many states "access of a computer network without permission" is a felony, so if you go to Starbucks and accidentally log into some other open wireless network in the neighborhood you've committed a felony.

This foolish notion that only people that are intrinsically bad have or ever will commit felonies only helps the Fed.Gov (and State.Govs) build a better police state.

I was just wondering where in the 2nd amendment, or anywhere in the BOR does it say anything about "except felons". If they can vote, why not give them a gun. A felon can get a wavier and join the military, and use guns.....

here is a perfect example of a felony that people do all the time.

If you have a car/ truck that came from the factory with a catalytic converter on it. You can not remove it unless you replace it with a model that meets its emission specs. Thats federal law and it hurts if you get nailed with it ( 10k fine and a felony)

here is CA, having fire works that are not "safe and sane" is a felony, in AZ any fire work is a felony.

Trespassing on railroad property is a felony.

vandalism over $400 in CA is a felony. Trust me, it does not take very much to get to $400, TP a house can get you over that limit.

I don't know anyone that at some point in thier time they have not commited a felony... I'm just as guilty.

In Indiana, any theft is a felony, so when you finish your taco bell, and grab an extra few napkins for the glove box.....

I know some of this sounds ridiculous, but it is true, and it is ridiculous.....

Went to pick up a gun at the local FFL/pawn shop and a "rainbow child", or hippy, whatever you prefer wanted to look a "the cheapest gun" he had. His I.D. showed he was not old enough to buy a handgun. Now he asks about a rifle and the shop keeper says no, now he asks about a spear fishing gun. At this point I see he's got a machete in his backpack and I'm ready to go outside and call the cops and he says the "f" word about 10 times and leaves. I'm also glad I never commited a felony, they walk among us!

^Dude, you live in Key West, so you should be used to it by now. If every month doesn't have a Rainbow festival then it's hordes of bums around the US making their pilgramage to the very southmost part of route 1. I no longer take the family there for vacations.

I have removed posts that were too close to personal attacks to allow to stay. If y'all have points to make - please do it without making fun of each other.

In some states, engaging in any form of oral sex, even between consenting adults of opposing genders, is a felony offense. It need not be same-sex contact in order to be considered felonious under the state's sodomy laws. Virginia is/was a prime example of that.

The notion that "there but for the grace of God go I" as regards our good clean unblemished name is not irrational. Most of us *have* unknowingly broken a law that, had we been caught and had we been in place A instead of place B, would have resulted in a felony charge.

And that is a tenuous thread upon which to potentially hang your RKBA.

Personally, I'm really sick of the drone some of y'all create when you go on about what's a felony where.

You know it's against the law, you know it's felony and what the consequences are of becoming a felon. If shooting off bottlerockets in Arizona or owning more than 5 sex aids in Texas, knowing that it's illegal, are worth losing your RKBA for, knock yourself out.

Quit being crybabies.

I've been here 32 years and sure have seen plenty of rainbow kids but never trying to buy any weapon they could get thrir hands on before. Key West never has been a very good family vacation choice. You are right about the bums, the panhandlers are more aggressive and more plentiful than ever.

rbernie is right. About all I can say about the felony thing is "but for the grace of God". I have known many people that are convicted felons that aren't any worse folks in my opinion than those on this board. All it takes is a few minutes of stupidity. I believe they finally repealed the sodomy law here in Georgia but some years ago a man was convicted of it for having oral sex with his wife. She had accused him of rape. They couldn't prove that but he admitted to the oral sex so they got him on it.

When you were 18 years old and growing up in Virginia - chances are you DIDN'T know that oral sex was a felony nor were you thinking about your future RKBA.

That's the point.

Quit being crybabies.
Quit being sanctimonious. :)
