VERY LARGE Wisconsin Bear

A friend of a friend sent this picture around -- this bear was taken in Porterfield, WI, the weekend of 9/22-23, by Dan Kaufman. They weighed the bear at the Crivitz Feed Mill: 685 lbs! That's a bunch of bear!!

I've seen several around that area, in person and on my game cameras. Seems like more are showing up every year. It's great habitat for them. Can't wait until I draw my bear tag!

Wow, that's huge. A friend of a colleague landed a 350lb'r last weekend in the Oregon coast range and I thought that was big. That's a cub compared to this guy.

No wonder we can't find a large bear in Michigan's UP, they all went to Wisconsin. Wonder why? Better feed, prettier fraulein bears. Congrats to

Baiting, I'm pretty sure. The woods are way too thick for spot-and-stalk up there. Unless you like 30-yard stalks.

Seriously, there are more bears and turkeys up in NE Wisconsin these days than I've ever seen, to the point where I'll be surprised if they don't up the number of tags pretty soon. My game cameras always pick up six or eight different bears each week or two. I've never seen on that size in person, but if I ever do I hope I'm armed!

hehe... artillery or an air strike almost seem more appropriate than a rifle for that monster.
