In a shocking move, both the Senate and House voted to adjourn the special session on gun violence until November 18th. Which happens to be after everyone in the legislature is up for reelection. They spent an hour introducing guests and passing memorial resolutions and then quickly moved to end session. Now we will see if Gov. Ralph will try to do some executive orders.

Smart move. This denied the Democrats their antigun talking points.

I still think the Democrats will win control of the legislature this November, possibly in spite of their support for gun control rather than because of it. "Trump derangement syndrome" runs strong in Virginia. Draconian gun control, not so much.

Not so smart move. Yes, they needed to end this Northam ploy. But the did not come out with any clear message WHY they ended the ploy. Aside from a strategy to adjourn, it looks liek the VA Republicans did not have much of a strategy going into this special session. As a stated in another thread, they simply handed over another point of attack for the Democrats to use.

And what was up with the House Speaker? Yesterday he submits a bill to prohibit firearms from all government buildings, and this was a surprise proposal that was not appreciated by his fellow GOP lawmakers. The majority whip even resigned over it (but was voted back into office, after the House Speaker apologized to him, and withdrew the bill).

Today made the GOP look like idiots. So yeah, Virginia Republicans are handing the Democrats a win in November.

As for doubting Draconian gun control, frankly I think you are being naive. Unless you think that an AWB, magazine capacity limits, one gun a month, and a red flag law are not "draconian".
