Don't forget to vote.

Lots of local seats, and local elections are very important. Many are won by a slim margin, and those folks do wield a lot of power.

Ballots must be postmarked by August 2nd.

This is a primary and Special Election, at least in Washington, your state might be different.

Some positions will be determined by this primary and will not be on the November ballot. So look at your ballot and Vote.

Voting is not enough. Contribute to the campaigns of the people you want. Talk them up with your neighbors. Put out yard signs. Volunteer with their campaigns.

I will be dropping of my ballet in person tomorrow don't trust the mail ,

Regardless your stance on the issues, this election has hopefully shown everyone how much more important the primary (really, pre-primary) process of the election is than the general. The choices are winnowed down to a mere handful by the general, and by then we've either gotten an advocate on our side leading the ticket, or we've lost our voice and are hitching our wagon to whoever isn't actively trying to destroy us as damage control. Obviously if we hope to ever actually achieve any policy goals, the latter isn't going to be good enough (and periodic losses to hostile forces will steadily erode whatever ground we stand on if we don't build it up)

In a real way, the practical effect of the election is decided during the primaries, and what happens thereafter is more inevitable than not (based on larger trends than any one issue can influence)

So it is a wise practice to know where your various primary choices lie on the issues --up and down ballot-- so you don't end up stuck with a lesser evil or fair-weather friend in the end (maybe).

If the general election goes the way our primary is going we are screwed. The news yesterday said 1 in 7 ballots had been returned . What is wrong with people they are mail in ballots in Washington St.

Voting should not be easy and it should take at least as much proof of identity as it takes to buy a six-pack of beer. Someone who shows up at a polling station and isn't registered, without ID and in the wrong precinct has been done a disservice by their parents and our education system but we should not bare the brunt of those failings.

Slenk, there was evidence of massive fraud in the primaries, as well as illegal collusion by media & various political orgs, and it continues to be so today. More reson to get as much early influence in the process before the war drums start

How to find info on local candidates

Where can you find a record or recommendation from the NRA, on who to vote for in local elections. I am currently filing out my Ballot, but some of the smaller county commissioners, judges, and school board members are unfamiliar to me. How do you find out how to vote for people you never heard of?
I have the important ones covered, but there are several who I never heard of before seeing them on the ballot? I tried searching the NRA data, to no avail.
I would hate voting for someone who I had no information about. I have no school age kids, I obviously don't know any of these folks. Same with local prosecutors and judges.

You can type in their name and office they are running for and get info. On the internet. Google search is your friend.

Google's been caught red-handed suppressing all sorts of important information just like Twitter and the rest.

Best bet is to acquire a list of candidates, and solicit them for their stances (during the primary would be the best). Those who actually reply, or have the info on a website, and say the right things should be encouraged. If you want to dig deeper in obscure race, old local news is the best way to learn if they are new arrivals (RED FLAG) or recently supported gun control (BLACK FLAG). We'd have a better slate of candidates in all parties if people bothered to do this instead of lapping up sound bites.

I know quite a lot about computers, I used to build them, but I would think the NRA would have a list of even the people running for positions in State and local government, like Circuit Judges etc, they don't.
I am going to send an email to the appropriate NRA dept. and see if they have more specific information about the dozen or so people whom I never heard of.
If anyone has such a list please let me know, thanks Guys.

And by not voting you accomplish, what?

I have revoked my consent. This government no longer abides by the laws. This is a crime spree here, not leadership and governance!

By refusing to vote, I am sending a message that I no longer support this criminal administration, whether "the Elected Royalty" gets it is another question but if nobody follows....

Nobody rules....

"Consent of the governed" has less to do with voting, and more to do with continuing to live subject to the system's laws; you ain't rescinding your consent by simply not voting, Mr. Sovereign ;)

"Consent to be governed" has EVERYTHING to do with note voting...
I will not participate in the sham know currently as an "Election"...

There are pretty narrow rules here for discussion because our purpose is to try to get things done in support of RKBA. The rules are posted at the top of the forum, but here's the link-

The point has been made that the primaries are important. Absolutely true. What does that mean about getting something done? It means paying attention, going to the local R or D or "townhall" meetings before the ballots are set for the primaries so you learn what the people interested in local and state political position and power are like before the spin is refined. It means participating in the local 2A groups and other causes and social and political organizations to learn what other like minded people are saying and working to sway them. I means working with potential candidates to help them move through the selection and primary processes to get shared ides and positions out to more people for support. Then it means getting out during the election time to help people get their votes in.

National organizations like NRA aren't going to have info on your local down ballot choices, but your local Friends of the NRA and state and local 2A groups will.

Participatory politics requires more participation than just marking a ballot. It means working to get the right people in the pipeline to be on the ballot in the first place and then stayin on the job to keep people engaged.

BTW, not voting is not sendin anyone any sort of message when most people don't bother to vote. That gesture is pointless if it isn't known as a protest. Passive aggressive behavior like that achieves not one whit more than the slob on the couch or the socialite that simply isn't paying attention if that's all you're doing is withholding a vote. OTOH, if you're working with others it may not be as important that you didn't cast a vote, but that is also how local elections get decided, by the number of people not participating.

if possible, volunteer to be a poll-watcher

In previous elections, results from some areas were basically statistically impossible, i.e. there was tampering. I'm going to volunteer to be a poll-watcher to help make sure that at least in my precinct the votes will be accurately recorded. Being that this election is so critical I urge everyone here to do likewise.

I applaud you. But most states have laws that make it difficult to be a poll watcher.

I was a poll watcher in one election in Virginia where my candidate had a printout of all the "favorable" voters -- people who he thought would vote for him. That printout was on 4-wide labels, so each voter's name and phone number appeared 4 times on the line. You could tear the label paper vertically, separating it into 4 lists, each with all the names and phone numbers.

Each poll watcher had a folding chair and a waste can. When a voter came in and said his name, we stripped off all 4 labels and dropped them into the waste can. So at any given time, the names of those who had voted were NOT on the list, only those who had yet to vote.

At 10:00 AM, we tore off the left strip and passed it to a courier, who took it to election headquarters. Volunteers there called every number still on the strip and reminded them it was election day and asked them to come out and vote.

We did the same thing at 12:00 and again at 3:00 PM. The last strip went in at 5:30 -- about the time people were getting home from work.

Our candidate won by around 5%.

If you believe that, I've got a bridge in Massachusetts for sale!:what:

Somebody will DEFINITELY rule! And you will obey the laws THEY make, pay the taxes THEY impose.

And you'll complain and complain, and never realize you did it to yourself.
