(WA) Man Wants To Sell Guns From His Home

The class 3 dealer I bought my FNC from deals from his home. He only sells on the internet and the gun show circuit. Wait til the liberal idiots find out people are selling MGs out of their homes.

Help me out here. Is this guy going for an 01 FFL, or an 03 (C&R) FFL? If it's an 01, I was under the impression that you had to have a real storefront--that your location couldn't be your home. That would explain why ATF turned him down.

Does anyone have any better details about this? Because if you can get an 01 and work from home, well, let's just say I'm interested....

Not quite true...

The gunsmith I use in Oklahoma City works out of his home. He also sells guns out of his home. His home is in a very, very suburban middle class neighborhood. His workshop as well as the items he stocks for sale are in his garage. He's got the same type of FFL that a guy running a regular gunstore has and will be upgrading to a manufacturer's level FFL as some time in the future and anticipates no problems doing so.

My understanding is that all ATF requires is that you have to comply with local laws. During the Clinton years the ATF made it almost impossible for the Kitchen Table FFL's but my understanding now is that they've lightened up a bit since Slick Willie departed D.C.

30-06, that's my question too. One of the reasons given to me by ATF why I could not renew my license back in 1995 was because I did not have an actual storefront.

In addition, I was told that the application for the Class 01 FFL requires:

Fingerprint cards;
Photographs showing everyone authorized to work under the FFL,
(here's the kicker)

a complete layout of the business where the guns were to be sold, including security features and where the guns were stored after hours.

Do you REALLY want ATF to have a diagram of your home, and where your gun safe is? :eek:

Guys, my rifle coach from my freshman year in highschool has an FFL to sell out of his house. He's had it for a while as I understand it, but it definantly was a fully FFL and not a C&R. He imported my Anschutz from Germany for me and I picked it up over at his house. I don't know why they wouldn't let you renew, but my experience is that people I know (my old coach and a friend) have them and don't have a storefront.

"You'd think there would be laws to not allow him to sell guns," said Mercer in disbelief. "Would you like to have someone living next to you that sells guns?"
That all depends on his markup. :)

I met a guy in Nederland,TX that sells out of a little trailer/shack. He keeps no stock, just orders everything with a standard markup. Also does some gunsmithing. He might as well be operating out of his home. I figured he owned the land a bunch of offices were on behind him.

I recently bought an AR15 RDIAS and the class 2 that did the transfer for me does all his business out of a detached garage behind his house. In talking with him while doing the transfer, I asked if his neighbors knew they had a firearms manufacturer living next door. His response was (not verbatim, but close): "Sure they do, I've sold guns to most of them, and I'm sort of surprised one of them hasn't popped over to say hello. They know that when a strange car is parked in my driveway that there's someone picking up a gun and they come over to take a look."

I guess that's just the difference between Texas and Washington.
