I know the original "Walmart is stopping ammo sales" thread was closed today, but I thought some THR'ers would be interested in their response to my complaint email which came back via email this afternoon:

Hello BERETTAPROFESSOR ,

We have been working to understand the many important issues that arose from the horrific events in El Paso and Southaven, as well as those that have been raised in the national discussion around gun violence.

We’ve updated our Open Carry Policy to respectfully request that customers no longer carry firearms into our stores or Sam's Clubs in states where “open carry” is permitted – unless they are authorized law enforcement officers.

We often adjust our assortments for business needs and due to recent events, we are making necessary changes. We will continue to serve our customers with an assortment that reflects the wants and needs they come to us for every day.

We will discontinue and sell existing inventory of handgun ammunition.
We will discontinue and sell existing inventory of certain short-barrel rifle ammunition, such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 mm that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity magazines on military-style weapons.

We will discontinue and sell existing inventory of handguns in Alaska, which means we will no longer sell handguns in any stores.

As always thank you for contacting Walmart were we are always happy to help.

As you can see, there was no "hey, we hear you and we're sorry but we disagree." This was an in-your-face response relisting their actions to make it perfectly clear that they don't care what I had to say.

I, for one, hope the company fails and that all its employees find better and higher paying jobs on the way out. I've bought my last bottle of cheese balls at Walmart.

While their knee jerk reaction makes no sense and will accomplish nothing, except making all of their stores look like even softer targets than they do now, I wouldn't have expected any other response.

They are a multi-billion dollar company, and their legal team and corporate board are going to make the decisions in regard to any response given to customer feedback. They are trying to fall in step to whatever they feel will promote a marketable future. Apparently that means catering to myopic liberal attitudes. None of this is a surprise.

I expect more big chain stores to do the same.

The *sole* thing the Wal Mart corporation cares about is their bottom line. You can believe that every action they take along these lines are those the company powers that be think will protect their interests.

So, cut them loose. Stop supporting them.

There are some things for some folks where there are no practical alternatives so they must continue to support them. At least for those things they can find no realistic alternative supply for. Entirely understandable and I am not against them for that.

But, for anything else? Cut them loose.

At the very least STOP giving them your money in the lines of firearms and ammunition and all others sporting goods. Let them get out of those lines altogether so that companies who do support our cause and interests can supply our needs.

Walmart is too big to care about what a few (or even a lot of) gun owners think. They could probably discontinue all gun and ammo sales and it wouldn't hurt their bottom line very much.

I didn't even get a response.
They didn't respond to me, either.
I know my few dollars spent there won't affect their bottom line but if every shooter, hunter and outdoorsman stopped spending money there they would surely feel the impact.
I will not be back in their stores...the few items I bought there are easily obtainable elsewhere, whether at another brick and mortar store or online.

What I find interesting is less than a week ago there was a thread about Walmart closeouts, guys were all hyped to save a buck and buy from what is now the evil empire.

Over the years They have been sketchy when it came to RKBA and their gun sales but now the camel’s back is broken and I have to give up my cheap onion rings and other food to prove a point?

Naw, it sucks that I can’t buy ammo like I had been but the real battle is ahead and this is just a distraction.

What is the definition of handgun ammunition? Many handgun rounds are not specific to handguns and can also be fired in longarms chambered as the same.
