Hi,
I recently replaced the stop-open latch spring on an Interarms PPK/S. As you know there's a little groove in the top of the latch that the bottom of the v-shaped spring rides in, and a little groove in the frame that the top rides in. My question is: at the front of the groove in the latch, it seems (or seemed) to be pinched closed a bit. I suspect this is meant to retain the spring from flying out if you have to remove the latch for some reason. (this didn't work, as the spring on mine was missing, hence the replacement). However, this pinched area also makes it impossible to install the new spring, as the v-point of the spring won't fit down into its groove enough to allow the end of the spring down into the groove.
So I sort of pried that groove open a bit and got the spring in far enough that I could compress it enough to install the latch, and it seems to be working. I haven't function fired it, but the slide doesn't lock open with the magazine out and the gun upside down, and it _does_ lock open properly on an empty magazine.
Do I need to really open that groove up to allow the spring to slide forward all the way into its groove, and then pinch it shut again? Or should I leave well enough alone since it's working fine as-is? I'm sort of concerned about metal fatigue from all the bending/rebending.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
