So as you can tell by the title, I want to refinish my mossberg but sorta cost friendly. I just bought a new mossberg 500 with a 28in ported barrel and wooden furniture, currently with a blue finish. The blue finish barrel and receiver gets fingerprints and grime all over it just when I handle it. So I want to put just a matte black finish on it with duracoat but 1- I dont know if they make a standard black duracoat finish, 2 - I have no trust in myself to do it so I'd take it to a local gunsmith, whats that gonna cost? and 3 - will the aluminum take the duracoat finish?

Most gunsmiths should be able to handle that for you for under $100. It is no problem to Duracoat aluminum, or even wood and polymer if you decide to go that route. It is just a glorified paint process. You could also have the barrel parkerized, and have the receiver Duracoated or Cerakoted to match.
IMO, you would be better off just live with the factory finish. Whatever finish you have done will not add to the value of the gun, and will get dirty also.

It was my understanding that you couldn't have aluminum parkerized, or can you?

No, the aluminum can't be parkerized, but there are Duracoat and Cerakote colors that match either zinc phosphate or manganese parkerizing.

1. They have just about any color duracoat you want.

2. Anywhere from 125-200

3. Yes with a media blasted surface.

Dude i promise you duracoat sucks. If you want to do the gun in a coating that has the best wear resistance of any paint coating go cerakote. It will cost roughly the same price.

Personally I like them to parkerize the gun first so that it adheres better and offers another, layer of protection against corrosion.
I'm not sure if you can parkerize aluminum or not.

Here's my 500 that started out as a 28" ported barrel with vent rib.

It's got od green cerakote on it.

cerakote has a color called socom blue that will match pretty close to most any gun bluing.

At the very least you could have the barrel and magazine tube parkerized and then cerakoted and have the aluminum receiver garnet media blasted and them painted in cerakote.

Yeah I dont believe that you can parkerize aluminum and I thought that you couldn't cerrakote it either

So it's only the receiver on a mossberg that is aluminum, that means the barrel could be parkerized?
