Well it happened, we lost our indoor shhting range in Louisville. The folks that owned the indoor range here have relocated and made it a retail store only...No Range.
There are a few outdoor ranges including the famous Knob Creek....but sometimes it's alittle cold out and all I want to do is punch some holes in paper with a handgun.
Any suggestions

Say it ain't so!!!!

I still have a membership there entitling me to more range time! My son said he THOUGHT he spotted their new location out Shelbyville Rd past Lake Forest. (That's a long way from the central location they used to have!)

He said it looked like they had shelves up but he couldn't figure out where the range might be.

Are they located on Shelbyville Road? Anyone have any more details? (They promised me that they would mail me a postcard when they re-opened. I haven't received anything.):(

What am I going to do with all these handguns now?

I figured this would happen, in fact, I'm surprised they were able to scrape up enough money to open a store. Logistar, I got the same card you did, but told my S.O. they probably wouldn't reopen the range. Think we can get in store credit?

RH factor, were exactly did you find the store?

Are we SURE there won't be a range? The last I heard was that they had planned to open a retail store first. They expected the range to be one or two months afterward.

I am still kinda hoping that we are just seeing the "store" that will preceed the range. Does anyone know for sure? RH Factor??? Maybe I will try to check it out this weekend.

mrstang01, I only had a short time (less than a month) left on my membership anyway. I really think they would treat you right (or close anway!). The bad thing was that I hadn't been in about a month (VERY unusual for me). I showed back up the day AFTER their last day in business. :banghead:

(I KEEP COMPULSIVELY BUYING AMMO BUT AM RUNNING OUT OF PLACES TO STORE IT!)

A friend said he was out there last week. It's out Shelbyville rd past Vallhalla. I'm going to Knob Creek on Sunday. Maybe try to talk Kenny into building an indoor range.

Bingo! That's what I've been saying for a couple of years. KC is crazy for NOT building an indoor range, they could do it fairly cheaply, just drop one of those metal buildings long ways to a hill, and ... instant range! Now, add the pulleys, some heat. I can't believe they haven't looked at this.

I went by Ray's tonight. It was closed unfortunately. I got there a couple of hours too late. However, it IS located out Shelbyville Rd past Lake Forest..... on the left (North side) just before Long Run Park. (Just like RH Factor's friend says.)

It sure appears to be a small place. I can't see that there is enough room for a range in there. (I could see some rifles on the wall and some holsters and accessories.) However, there was a notice that there was a CCW class there on Saturday (yesterday). Since the CCW class requires a range, maybe they DO have a range there. But if they do.. it can't be more than 20 ft (the distance for the class). -maybe they do it outside???

I will try to call them tomorrow and check it out. (I got their phone number off their door... it's around here someplace. I'll let you know what I find out.

Great Logistar,

I'd really appreciate any intel you can find out. Also, if you wouldn't mind, please post the number?

Thanks!

Michael

I tried the number this afternoon but I only got a recording. (I am assuming that they are closed for the day. -Sun 2-2-03)

Anyway their phone number is (502)244-1321.

IIRC, the message said they had CCW classes on the 1st (just past) , the 8th and the 15th (all Saturdays) followed by a class on the 19th (wednesday). These classes are all in the month of February, 2003.

They list their address as:

16211 Shelbyville Rd
(2.5 miles east of the Gene Snyder) (kinda hard to see although it only sits 15-20 yards off the road - north side of the highway.)

I am curious that the recording said "Ray's Gun SHOP". - not gun RANGE. But again, I thought they had to have a range to hold the CCW class.

I will call back tomorrow and try to post more details. (This location is probably too far for me to drive to do me me any good regardless. :( )

Fellows,
There is an outdoor range in Georgetown at the Floyd County Conservation Club. Membership is $40/year. I know it is not indoors, but if that's all ya got! ;)

It does have a covered roof and the rain never stopped me from shooting. They have 7, 25, 50. & 100 yards.

There is some talk about the Southern Indiana Pistol Club building an indoor range, but right now, that's all it is...talk. I'll let you know if that changes.

Thanks Jessica. I am 20 minutes from Knob Creek so outdoor shooting isn't a problem for me. Indiana is a long way for me to go but that might help a lot of other people.

Update on Ray's... I only had a brief conversation this morning but this is what I found out:

They are open as a gun store.
They do not have a range.
They DO have CCW classes (as I reported earlier).

If you are like me, you had the ask the following questions...

"If you are teaching CCW, don't you require students to fire 11 of 20 shots into a target in order to pass the class?"

"Yes"

"Well, how do you qualify candidates if you have no range for them to demonstrate their skills?"

"We have a place 4 miles from here."

I will try to call them back when I can. It looks like they have a "range" of some sort but that it is not available to the "public". - Only to CCW classes. I asked if they were planning on a public range. After a brief hesitation, the answer was that she was not sure.

FWIW

I tried a post this morning, but it apparently didn't come thru. I got almost the same answers you did Logistar, except they indicated they had a range, and I got the impression it was on site. The lady I spoke to said they were waiting for "Zoning approval" to open a range to the public.

They seemed very hesitant to give out answers.

Yeah, it was kinda hard to pin them down. I looked at the store over the weekend. I see NO way that it is large enough for a range. There appears to be a back room but my best guesstimate says you'd have about a 10' range at best. That would be unusable of course. They DID tell me that they had a range for CCW and it was *4* miles from the store. -FWIW

They also told me (via post card) that the store would likely open before the range, so maybe they will still have one (but it sure looks a long way off.) I am still waiting to get my gun back from Beretta. After I get it back (in a couple of weeks) I will check back with them - heck, maybe by then I will have stopped by there and "caught" Ray and talked to him.

I'll post if I hear anything else.

(maybe CCW has changed and they moved the target back from 20' to 4 MILES! :what: )

I spoke to Kenny at Knob Creek this past sunday. He's not interested in doing an indoor range. He's got enuff things happening with the regular range plus the Machine Gun Shoots. Oh well, something has to break loose.
