Met my shooting bud today for a couple rounds of skeet and a couple rounds of trap. Invited another guy to join us, he had shot a little sporting clays, and a round of skeet years ago but nothing recently. About 90 degrees with high humidity and very little breeze and full sun. We were dripping after the first round.

My Buddy had just picked up a used Winchester 101 O/U in .410 from an friend of his that is going into a nursing home and he wanted to try it out. I loaded up a few boxes of reloads for him and myself for the skeet. He shot a 17 the first round with a new strange gun in .410, we were not even sure what chokes it has. He shot a following 21, which is about where he shoots 12 gauge. New guy had about an 18 and a 19 with his Browning Citori in 12. I shot a 25 and 24 on my rounds with my .410. We all had to stop more than once to wipe sweat from our eyes and shooting glasses.

Trap rounds we switched to out trap guns, my M12 and my Buddie's 870TB. New guy prefers skeet, he maybe broke 15's, but he wasn't set up for trap shooting, we were at 22 yards. I ran another 25 and a 23, my buddy shot a 22 and a 19, which isn't too bad for maybe his 10th round of trap experience wise. We were all completely soaked with sweat by the time we were finished. A nice breeze picked up as we were heading out and a few clouds rolling in for a bit of shade. Figures.

A big SC event at the club kept me home today. The 410 is coming up in rotation but I'm thinking to try the 870 riot gun tomorrow among other things.

It's not been so warm here in SC this summer but it has rained darn near every day for the past year now. Everything is either wet or sticky. Last week I was attacked by fire ants on #2.... I hate those bastards but they are here to stay.

Why didn't you shoot the SC event? SC is a lot more fun, IMO, than trap or skeet as the targets are never the same.

Where I shoot in FL, we try to start whatever games by 8:30 and finish by about 10:30 in the summer before it gets too hot.

Lately here in the morning by 8:30AM it is already 104, and due to the fact it is the monsoon season the humidity is anywhere from 40-65 and even 70%. So having just recovered from congestive heart failure, I haven't shot any trap or skeet in three months. Will probably be another 2-3 months before I get out there. Sure do miss it.

Good question.
This is nothing but an excuse but of the 4 guys I usually shoot with 1 was out of town, 1 had family in town, 1 was working and 1 didn't want to go. The last circuit shoot had over 100 shooters. It was quite a doing. This coarse is noted its difficulty. I shoot it about once or twice a year.

I do like SC but I truly adore skeet. Unfortunately, half of the crew I shoot with prefer trap because it's easier. So, I have to shoot that some as well. They are all intimidated by SC to one degree or another. Cost wise SC is $0.10 more per bird so we're saving $10 a week on targets. 2 of my crew are on fixed incomes.

Now today was just as kudu described. High humidity. Soaring heat with little breeze. We shot pistols 1st because when we got to the club it was raining. Again. I didn't shoot so good but the 18" 870 walked away with a solid 22. Plus, I hit the jackpot. I seems a lot of the circuit shooters use AA and nitro factory shells and dont reload. All in all it was a good day.

We went to the range this morning to shoot 22 rifles. Got there about 7 am, by 9 am we bailed out. The humidity was terrible. I enjoyed the shooting but after a while in the steam bath I was looking for some AC.

Have a blessed day,

Leon
