Warmed my heart. I think there is hope.

In the local shop when a lady came in. Lives alone, drove herself in. Was in the process of renewing her CC license. All done but waiting for it to be processed. Visited with her a bit. Good conversation. She is 91 years old! Congratulations!
Good on her!:)
Did she happen to mention what she carries? Just curious.:)

Congrats to her ! I hope her renewal goes through smoothly. In the last decade or so I've run into a few (although very few) folks in their 70's and even mid to late 80's that still carry on a regular basis. Friend of mine is 75 and still carries and 6 or 7 years ago I used to occasionally see a fellow who was in his late eighties that still carried a .380. It's good to know that all senior citizens aren't defenseless and considered "ripe picking" for those who prey upon the weak and elderly. Back in the 1980's I knew an old guy who ran a small out of the way bar and lived upstairs. When he was in his mid 70's or so some young guys roughed him up one night and took what was in the register. He had a pistol but it wasn't handy at the time. After that he always had it hidden nearby, just in case, and he ran that place until he was in his early 90's and fortunately he never needed to pull out that pistol but he was prepared. He's the one who told me all about how some of the younger generation will prey upon old timers. It's sad but it is what it is.

Sadly up until WW II she was the norm. I've lived in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. Everyone in rural areas knew how to shoot, had guns in the house, was ready to defend family, farm. When you call the Sheriff and have a 45 minute wait, you do what you have to do.
My guess is she packs a .32-20 6 shot revolver her departed husband loaded for her in 1983.
You go girl!

So your state renews CC permits in a gun shop?

That's a new one on me.

No, it does not. To know she was in the process of renewing had to have been disclosed in a conversation. We have to re-qualify thru an approved instructor and file paperwork with the Arkansas State Police and pay their hefty fees. I'm due to do this again before the first of the year.

I did a quick search. $62.80 for a renewal fee is "hefty"? TSA charges $80 for their background check to get on the Pre-Checked list.

Had an aunt(she was old when I met her and 95 when she died) who lived alone and kept a SxS damascus barreled 12 gauge shotgun and a single shot .410. Asked her what she was going to do if she missed with a single shot .410. She told me she'd turned it around and use it as a club. She gave me the .32-20, 6 shot, Colt revolver her father had.

I used to think 70 was old until I got there. (well, I am close) Most all of my friends in their 60's, 70's. and 80's carry. No big deal. I have often wonder if the state would ever impose a "senility test" or something like that on older Americans. That though scares me a little.

Compared to some other states Yes it is. I haven't caused any trouble since my last renewal and the check should be minimal. The Arkansas
State Police are greedy. Their leadership are anti carry and only like the money they receive from CCW.
