The subject of this post is "Wasted Time". You are forewarned ...

Background: I have had a Glock 42 'for sale' for about a year, but no one seems interested in buying it since Glock came out with the 43 chambered in 9x19mm Luger, so I may end up buying it myself, though the little .380 ACP semi-auto is not something I was really looking for; I also have over 2,000 rounds of 9x18mm ammo on hand to feed my CZ82 and Makarov pistols..

Somehow early this morning, and for the life of me I cannot remember how, I ended up on a thread about a Lone Wolf conversion barrel chambered in 9x18mm Makarov for the 42. I followed some links and ended up at the Lone Wolf (I like the 9x19mm conversion barrel I bought from them for my .40S&W Glock 23) web site and there was the barrel, with a status of 'back ordered'. Very little info was supplied, so I began searching the web for details on how the Makarov round would work in the 'converted' Glock.

I was shocked to find several links to a Glock 47 - a single stack pistol chambered for the 9x18mm Makarov cartridge! My web surfing seemed to get carried away on a big wave, and it was not until I found a fairly detailed post that alluded to the intro of this Glock 47 Makarov pistol causing sales of 1911s and Hi-Powers to dwindle that I realized I had been duped.

I wasted over 20 minutes of my life looking for a chimera that began its existence as an April Fools Day hoax! I felt like a dope, but it did make me smile.

Now to get my e-mail notification set up for when Lone Wolf has that Makarov barrel in stock ...

When Glock came out with the 42, I knew a similar 9mm wouldn't be too far behind, so I waited, and carried a 26 in the mean time.

When a person has an item for sale for a year that they are motivated to sell, and it hasn't moved, that means the price is too high. Basic economics.

I have both 42 and 43.

I find the .380 42 an excellent replacement for my J frame .38. And the 9mm 43 a replacement for my Glock 26 on many occasions.

They are quite accurate and reliable.

So I've finally been completely taken over to the dark side... except for field use, there I prefer revolvers.

I thought that less than $400 for the new-in-case Glock 42 was a decent price, but you must be right. Thanks, professor!

Shortly after the G43 came out I could have bought several G42's closer to $300. I only paid $429 for my G43.

Yeah, I remember when that joke ran..

In Illinois, the G42 might run higher than down here. In stores, where they can be trusted to actually be "new in case", you can still find them for well south of $400. Perhaps $350 if you look. But even a "new-in-box" from a private seller would run lower since its history is less certain.

I just checked - current dealer cost today (08/05/2016) on a new Glock 42 runs $352 - $357.99 plus shipping. The three big distributors I checked show them either 'out of stock' or 'allocated' at this time. The MAP (minimum advertised price) is $399.

I know a Georgia State Trooper who uses a M42 as his BUG. He likes it a lot. Yes, he's aware of the 43 of course, but the M42 came out earlier and his LEO discount made it easy for him. He has zero interest to upgrade.
