A HUGE thanks to whoever necro-posted this thread a few days ago! I spent most of yesterday and the better part of this morning reading all 1,200+ posts. Fantastic story! I really hope the NC saga is published! You guys are great writers!

Correia: I took my CCW class from you last year and I wish you would have mentioned your book! I am going to have to get that and maybe swing by the shop to have it signed!

I mainly wanted to bump this but I also want to comend you both on your'e great work.

Keep us posted on the possible publishing of these books, I will definitely buy a copy!

Update

Hey everybody. I'm very sorry that I haven't been online to respond myself. I haven't been on THR in weeks and, truth be told, things have been a little frantic for me lately.

Anyway...Correia's right. We were probably over 140,000 words into a sequel to the "Welcome Back" story and a the "Book 1" story, and he hits me with the idea to try to publish something.

I protested at first. I told everybody here that I'd write 'em a story, and I intend to do so. I didn't think this story could be made into a full-length thriller. But...writing well is a lot of work, and it's time consuming. He's right; if we're going to go through the trouble, I might as well go for the gold and try to get it in book stores.

The fact that Correia is already a published author, getting plenty of positive reviews for Monster Hunter International means our chances of getting our jointly written story picked up by a publishing house are a lot higher.

Being honest, there's a lot of crap in the thriller market, in my opinion. Canned characters, for one. How many action novels star a current or former Navy SEAL? Too many Tom Clancy wannabes without the talent to pull off his writing style (Without Remorse is one of my all time favorite books) also.

Have you ever read a novel by two authors, told in the first person, where each author wrote a different character point-of-view and the two were intertwined to form a complete story?

Me either. That's why we're writing one. It's looking like we're going to take the basic plot of the Welcome Back story which, if I do say so myself, turned out pretty good considering we wrote it all on the fly, and use it as a plot outline for a full-length thriller novel (and I apologize for the run-on sentence).

Before all is said and done there'll likely be a lot of changes, but the basic character and storyline will remain the same. I'm not going to give away anything about the new story, though. Needless to say even if you've read this story, there'll be plenty new material to make the book worth picking up.

I'm afraid I can't give a timeline for this. Writing, as I said, can be time consuming, and I've got real life and a full time job to cope with as well. On top of that, I'm working on some things that...well, I'll just say that there could be some big changes in store for me in the near future.

Getting this novel finished and to the printers might take awhile. I might have to take off for a number of months and may not be able to write, depending on how things go. One way or another, we will get this finished and I promise you we'll write our asses off to make sure it's worth the wait.

I want to thank you all for your continued support. I owe any current and future success in writing to The High Road and everyone here that encouraged me and inspired me to keep writing. I'm in your debt. I'm in Correia's especially; if not for him, I'd never have had the wherewithall to try to get something published in the first place.

As I said, things are crazy for me right now, so I don't get onto THR much. If you PM me and you don't hear back, just send a message to Correia and he'll remind me to check my inbox. I'm not accepting any more PayPal donations. I want to thank you guys again for your generosity, but please, save that money to buy the book when it comes out.

Larry and I will do our best to make the realization of this story into the most exciting, most intense, most engaging, most unique thriller novel you've ever read. Stay tuned.

You reminded me of a book I read years ago, An Instance of the Fingerpost. Although written by one person, he uses four narrators to tell different versions of the story.

www.themysteryreader.com/pears-instance.html

"In using four different narrators to tell his story, Iain Pears weaves webs of deception, using omission and outright lies to confuse the truth.

"Marco da Cola, gentleman of Venice" is the first narrator, telling his tale without reference to any other story. Each subsequent narrator, however, comments on and 'corrects' the stories that went before. The reader must act as detective, determining who is lying, who is telling the truth, determining, in fact, what the truth is. Unlike many mysteries, there is no final summing up by a reliable storyteller, no detective explaining how he solved the crime, no amateur sleuth putting the police into the picture."

"Each narrator takes close to 200 pages to tell his tale – these are highly verbal 17th century gentlemen, each with an axe to grind as well as a tale to tell. Yet, for all its length, the book is deeply satisfying: complicated, compelling, confusing and as messy as life itself. More, it is a keeper because it is a mystery to reread, to see if clues that were perhaps hidden before spring to life. I know I will reread it purely to see if my first conclusion about what happened holds up."

Anyway, getting back on track, I look forward to reading your novel. John

Novel? You're publishing the whole trilogy right?

Oh Boy!

:what::D:D:D:cool:

Can't wait!

I understand you can't give us a time line but how about occasional updates like how many pages, what you've been doing besides just writing (i.e. editing, rewriting, researching, etc..), and especially anything involving final publishing?

I will be buying it as soon as it comes out and I'm planning on getting MHI soon.

Anyway, I think it's awesome you and Larry are working together and I love it, especially from two different perspectives. I'm not really the kind of guy who can appreciate literature/art (I've read Marcincko's books and this is better), but I really enjoy this.

Thanks for posting guys!

I read the entire story presented in this thread in two sittings (including all the additional posts and commentary*.) Gotta say, it's a great yarn, and extremely well told, by both authors. I'll be in line to buy whatever the heck you guys produce, and thanks to both of you for sharing your talents with us.

*yeah, I need a life

Oh my. Oh my, Oh my.

I just sat and read 1238 posts. That was the most addicting thing I've read since Lights Out, and just as good.

Nightcrawler, that was amazing. Correia, I'm glad you jumped on board, it turned out astonishingly well.

Please, gentlemen, keep us all updated. I'll buy a copy of the trilogy. I'm going to have to go look for a copy of MHI now.

So does ANYONE else get the Dead Six reference...pretty obscure. But we know that Nightcrawler is a C&C fan.
And he ain't the only one... even though I preferred the Red Alert (whoo! Gotta love Tanya--what's not to fall for about a total hottie with a pair of .45s who knows how to use 'em?) and then Generals branches, myself...

Let me tell you, when I was like 11 years old playing Red Alert (insert awesome theme music here) Tanya was the STUFF. Oh man, I feel a nostalgia wave coming on...

What are you talking about? I'm thinking closer to age 21 and Red Alert 2, myself... even though Kari Wuhrer's costuming was a recipe for the Hot Brass Dance. lol

Back on topic: Nice to hear you guys are looking into serious publication! Correia, are the MHI patches gonna be available again when the paperback release comes out?

Good luck finding copies of MHI right now. I had to discontinue the self published version as part of my new publishing contract. There won't be any more copies of MHI printed until Unnamed Big Publishing House prints their edition. And I don't have an ETA on that yet.

I saw them going on E-Bay the other day for crazy amounts of money! Independant bookstore From My Shelf has copies available still, and they're for sale on Amazon.

I've got to admit, it is kind of gratifying to see my book going for scalper's prices. :D

I read all of Nightcrawler's THR stories (those with and without Correia) as well as MHI. Think I snagged one of the last few copies off Amazon. If you two do get this published, you've got my money coming. Oh, and Correia: MHI was AWESOME! I believe I speak for all of your fans when I say SEQUEL!!

webscriptions and eARCs

Correia since you are publishing with Baen do you have any plans of selling as an ebook through webscriptions.net? If you will release an ebook would you be willing to sell as an Advanced Reader Copy? I have been buying John Ringo's books a few months early for a couple years now. I would sure love to get my hands on MHI.

ETA is this a dead thread resurrection?

wow i no im late to the party but i just spent the last 2 days reading and wow,
one thing?............
What the **** happend to the little Godzilla:evil:

Somehow he safely ended up on a bookshelf in Salt Lake City, overlooking a large iguana named Winston.

For general info, Nightcrawler and I are making this into an actual series of novels. The contents of this thread have more than doubled in size, and will be Book 1: Dead Six. The overall plot has stayed kind of the same, but there has been some significant changes.

And it is a whole lot better. We just kind of threw this together, but the real version is absolutely amazing.

Book 2: Exodus, is coming along nicely, and picks up a few months after the events in Quagmire.

Book 3: Project Blue, ends the Nightcrawler saga in a way that you just won't believe.

So if you liked this thread, be aware that the final published product is going to be 8 times larger. :)

I'll be shopping for a publishing house in a few months. Worst case scenario, I'll self publish like I did with Monster Hunter International, and look how that turned out.

I started reading this thread at 3PM... It's now midnight for me.

I loved it. I really loved it!! I'm going to pre-order Correia's book from Amazon as soon as I get a few extra bucks, and if you guys are really pressing forward for publishing, I can't wait! I'll be on that order list :)
