THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL
After much discussion and deliberation, we've decided to expand THR's selection of forums to include an area dedicated strictly to the discussion of guns that use compressed gas instead of burning powder to fire a metallic projectile.

From the historical air guns used in historic wars and the early days of America's exploration to the trusty pump-activated air guns used to plink targets and small game, to the high-end, high-tech air guns used in Olympic competition, air guns can be surprisingly versatile.

So, come in, have a seat, and discuss all things air gun!

airsoft?

by airguns are we just talking about stuff like my .22 Chinese SKS trainer, my Romanian pioneer pellet rifles, my ''Winchester'' .177 from Turkey, and the half dozen BB and pellet pistols laying about here, or can we talk about the 6mm plastic ball shooters as well? Or should that have it's own department?

We have decided that airsoft and paintball will not be covered here at THR.

The Air Guns sub forum will be, in Justin's words:

We've got some pretty carefully thought-through reasons for that, mostly centering around the uses those other forms of "airgun" are primarily put to -- and how those uses differ from the way one should use and think of weapons, which is our focus at THR. Neither airsoft nor paintball will have their own area here for that reason.

Airsoft guns may still be discussed on a limited basis in the Strategy, Tactics, and Training sub-forum when their uses are very specifically confined to serious scenario-based role-play training.

(I have taken the liberty of merging your question and the response into out "Welcome" sticky thread for the benefit of many others who will undoubtedly ask the same thing.)
