As I posted a few days ago, my wife picked up a 629 Deluxe for my early bday present. I happened to notice(cant believe it took me this long) that the barrel is not engraved with 629 Classic. It has the appropriate 44 magnum designation on one side but nothing on the other side.
I sent an inquiry to S&W and they asked for pics, I sent them and am now just waiting for word back from S&W.

That's an underwhelming polish for something carrying the *Deluxe* handle.

I know a fella can polish it as I am doing but what the devil IS Deluxe about them.... Merely the grips?

Todd.

Just speculation on my part, but it might be a re-work. It might have gone back in the assembly process to fix something like excess b/c gap. The barrel was replaced and then it managed to bypass the etching station. Whatever happened, I agree with previous comments that it's better off without it. If the barrel fit is very good, then all the more. What I would do is measure the b/c gap with feeler gauges and see where it's at. If it's good, you've got a nice one. If it's a bit loose, you might get S&W to do it better under warranty. Then you'd have at least two reasons to compel them to do so.

Good point labnoti, your probably right on with what took place...I will measure the gap, the revolver sure seems to be a good one. As for the engraving, ultimately I don’t really care and I am kind of with Obturation on the less is better thing.

What the heck? Smith and Wesson screwed up? How dare them! On the other hand you may have a factory flaw that will work in your favor. I agree they could polish it a lot better. That might take the price up to Colt territory though and we can't have that can we. I love your gun though and my previous comments are tongue in cheek.

Plus, that add-on stuff like in this case and *mountain gun* looks like someone's gifted kid with a home laser did it in his spare time.

Well, at least they aren't telling us where the *GRIP ZONE* is.:neener:

Todd.

Ya, that is horrible.

I saw a picture of a 686 recently that was double stamped on that side where it's says 357 magnum. It was like they stamped it then it slid it back a 32nd and they hit it again
If you really want it, I'll bet they would stamp it but for something like that I wouldn't bother. No chance they can scratch it up or something that way

I would be tempted to pay extra to have no external makings. Just the model and dash under the crane and the serial under the grip. Leave all the rest off!

My Model 29 Classic had lazer marketings on both sides of the barrel. "SMITH &WESSON" left side barrel. "44 Magnum" left side under-lug. "29 Classic" right side barrel.
