Hi All:

Had a wonderful day shooting with my 20 year old son today. We had not been in a while so we had a few new guns to shoot. We shot for about 4 hrs and had not one failure to fire. Which was kind of amazing considering some of the ammo that was shot.
We fired about 400 rounds of Remington 22 LR through the Heritage Rough Rider 22 with no problems. This is shooting 22 ammo that I bought in the late 60's-early 70's time period. I have one 500 round brick and about 400 rounds of loose left. I was surprised their was not one FTF considering that it is around 40 years old.
Through the Taurus Gaucho we fired about 200 rounds of various Miwall 38 spl reloads. It was Cowboy loading in RN & SWC configurations. The gun and the ammo functioned perfectly. My son loved the trigger on the Gaucho and he said it was his favorite out of all fired. He got so good at shooting it I swear hear was firing it as fast as a semi auto pistol.
Next is my 1858 44 cal Remington reproduction by Pietta. Put about 70 rounds through this and I thought it was a blast. No FTF and only one cap jam brought about by my failure to raise the revolver when cocking. Shot between 20 & 25 grains of Triple 7 and finally settled at 23 grains. Used #10 CCI caps and had no problems. The boom and the smoke was great.
Last is my old H&R Topper 12 gauge shotgun I bought new around 30 years ago for $59.99. It has been a good shotgun and now with the addition of a slip on butt pad and a five round slip on ammo carrier it looks updated. My son shot about 100 rounds of 12 gauge low base reloads that his uncle had thrown out about 4 yrs ago. It looked good to me so I grabbed all of it. Not one FTF all worked as expected. My BIL can be wrong a lot of the time.
All in all it was a great day shooting with my son and he said he can' wait for next time. He is already looking to buy a Ruger 10\22 and he wants me to take him and a couple of his friends shooting next weekend. I am all to glad too take any of my sons friends shooting and introduce them to the sport. I can remember when my dad and a couple of my buddies fathers would do the same.

Strangely I also was shooting my HRR with my boys yesterday. The older had his 10/22 out but really enjoyed the revolver.

We held a yard sale on Saturday and the toys that did not sell found a new life as reactive targets. They loved setting up the little plastic trucks and plinking away at them. We also made use of the 1990s Pentium I computer.

One of my neighbors brought over some Aquila shells, some .22mag snake shot and various other rounds that he had stashed away for years. Most of it was from the 70s. We sent those down as well we had two FTFs.

Dang it. My son who is also my shootin' patrner, is on his second week of a trip to Saskatchewan Canada, hunting gophers with Gramma and Grampa. I guess he's also fishin' for walleye and northern pike. Lucky little beggar. Readin' this makes me miss him even more.
