Well, Thursday was my 21st birthday so last night me and a friend went down to Atlantic City NJ. We acted appropriatly, didnt dress up, and didnt carry alot of money. We werent expecting any trouble, especially on a tuesday night at 9pm. And thankfully we didnt get any.

In case anyone doesnt know, alot of AC is a ghetto. The casinos raised the property values, arsons occured for the money, and now there are alot of abandoned and delapidated buildings. So we are wondering down pacific avenue and we notice the usuals. Pimps with thier hookers in front of them, taunting people that walk by. Drug dealers and just your usual undesirables. Not to forget the crazy guy laughing at the wall in the pizza shop. Crack is a dangerous drug :p

So we are walking down a side street and 3 guys get off their porch when we walk by. They are about 25 years old and are walking parallel to us on the other side of the street. They cross over behind us about 25 yards, I am always keeping an eye on my surroundings but my friend was pre-occupied with shiny things. I cross the street to the opposite side and the 3 guys turn around and walk back to their porch. Other than that nothing else happened.

I am familiar with the area and I am cautious wherever I am. There were some tourists though, they were just counting their money, acting boisterous and just all around acting like targets.

We were cautious, played our cards right (outside the casino anyway :banghead: ) and didnt get into a scuffle. we were ready to fight if neccessary, but most situations can be difused by walking the other way.

I guess the whole point of this post is, while Atlantic city may appear friendly with all the flashy signs and lights, its no need to let your guard down. Just because there are people on the streets doesnt mean they will rescue you if you are in trouble.

AC is a pathetic, rundown pit. Even the "nice" places (ie casinos) look rundown and chincey, once you get a close look at them.

And you are positively not kidding, the urban blight starts 1 block away from the boardwalk.

You were being interviewed for a robbery ,I suspect. The awareness you showed, and crossing the street to check out your feelings (as in ,do they follow?) told them you were going to be more trouble than it was worth.
I would have run my ass off rather than fight, however. It takes just a fraction of a second for a street altercation to turn horrific, and these are probably guys who are used to hurting people.

I love and miss A.C.

Seedy? Yes. Dangerous? Possibly. Fun? Definitely.

Can't wait to visit the family back East and take a little side trip to Caesar's.:)
