Well was supposed to meet my shooting buddy at the gun club today to shoot a few rounds of skeet but forgot that they were having the pre-state registered skeet tournament. So we decided to shoot the 100 bird sporting course that they refurbished this spring and neither of us had shot. The reason my friend started shooting skeet with me was because he was getting less than 50% on sporting clays.

Pretty warm today, 85 degrees sunny and muggy but at least there was no mosquitoes. We alternated starting each station and made our way through all 15 stations for 100 birds. Most stations could be shot with skeet chokes with a few where I/C worked the best and one or two that a light mod would of been handy. I kept a skeet choke in lower barrel and an I/C in the top, buddy had a pair of skeets. We were both shooting 7/8oz 12 gauge loads of 8.5's and doing well, he ended up with a 74 which he was very happy with and I had a 91. There was rabbit targets, standard, midi's, minis, and battues for an interesting combination of presentations. There were some devious target set ups that really made you look and think. Would of liked to have a third or fourth member to shoot with to give the starter shooter a chance to watch the targets more.

All in all a nice fun day at the range, just got to be sure to wipe my gun down with all the sweat that was on it.

my best at SC,s was a 42-50, going on 74 and having all the things that go with old age does not help at all. eastbank

Kudu, what shotgun were you using? Sounds like a stacked barrel.

I shoot all kinds of shotguns depending on my mood, but I had my old standby, a Beretta 682 Supersport, 30". It is a full blown Kolar tubed all gauge gun with a 12 gauge carrier barrel so my weight and balance are identical from 12 gauge to .410. Quite often I will take out my 11-87 or a small gauge gun depending, I can shoot pumps as well as my autos or the Beretta, just depends how much I want to work for it. :scrutiny:

I shot a 48 bird Sporting with my Son ( Binelli 12 Ga.) shot a 38, Myself ( Rem 1100 12 Ga) shot a 34, my Grandson ( Rem 11-87 20 Ga.) shot a 28, and our pheasant hunting buddy Chris( Benelli 12 Ga.) shot a 22. But the goal was to have fun, and we had plenty of it. My daughter sad my grandson was usually quiet, but he talked a lot when shooting with the older "boys". I bought him a better shooting pouch than the one I have. My wife said to give him my old one, but I told her Fathers and Grandfathers always give gifts that are better than the ones they have. Shooting should always remain fun and safe, especially with 14 year old Grandsons.

Neat thread. I really like SC but rarely shoot it because I like skeet and trap just fine and its $0.10 per bird cheaper at our club. Most of the guys I shoot with tend to get pissy when they miss but frankly they take themselves too seriously. I just like to think my way through the shot. If it works.... Good. If it doesn't.... Oh well, I tried.
A round at our club is 100 birds to run the whole course and there are quite a few high handicap presentations that boarder on insanity. Lots of fun. I think I feel a a leisurely ride through the woods coming soon.

Meh. Cars aren't allowed anymore. You can walk but I wouldn't recommend it. I have seen people do it, or start out walking, and with good intentions I'm sure but I'll pass. By the time they make it to the trap range (1/4 mile) they havent made it to the 1st of 12 stands. This is the upstate of SC. and there is a long row to hoe. The club has carts or you can bring your own. Your choice. I'll take the club car.

Our club calls our range the Green Mile. You start off behind the club and it circles around far enough to be well out of shot drop range in front and around to the entrance to the facility. 15 stations. We parked 1 truck at the end and drove back and started at the beginning and walked 3/4 mile. The path is made for carts and SxS's if you are that fortunate.
