Narcotics officer shoots and kills fleeing man... who wasn't the parole violator he was attempting to apprehend.

PS I know some people are going to respond, "Run from a cop and you deserve it"... Well, maybe in your police state.

Edited to say: If the person presents a clear and present threat to the public, and shooting is necessary to save the lives of others, that is different.

atek3- what's up man?

I read this this morning and had the same reaction you did. This is f'd up for SO many reasons- what the HELL was a BNE officer firing at a fleeing suspect for? Since when does a BNE officer supercede the local PD?

There is a lot of info missing here... sure SJPD is treating this as a homicide but I truly think we'll never hear the final outcome. Inter-Departmental hand washing and all... I really hope I'm wrong.

Do they really say garbage like that over on GT? I thought only FReepers and ARFCOM had that kinda BS.
(This isn't libel, its the truth.)

Mainly just in the "Cop Talk" section, but yes, comments like that are the norm.

" ... and started running. Police say a narcotics agent fired several shots at the man, and that exact circumstances of the shooting are under investigation."

Aren't the rules of engagement set such that the "runner" must (at least) be a viable & immediate threat to the public safety?

Follow-up strongly suggests this guys wasn't (even the guy), nor was the real perp's escape a "real & present danger."

Although I can't subscribe to any newsie reports, this looks like a "bad shoot." Some call it murder - "in the performance of ... " :(
