What .308 bullet would you use?

No Hammer users? What about CEB?
Op said he was looking for one bullet for both precision shooting and hunting. I haven't tried the Hammer yet, but I've heard good things as far hunting and terminal performance. I have not heard anything yet about match or precision performance.

They have .308" 175 grain in "Rifle Maximus" and "MTH" (Match/Tactical/Hunting).

I have used Hammer pistol bullets in the past, but not their rifle bullets. I kinda didn't even realize they were still around.

I've shot Cutting Edge Lasers a bit in the past, and really expect them to be the only bullets I use for the next few years with my 2mile rifles, but unless you're in a state that requires copper solids, I wouldn't bother with the expense or the headache. Lasers are the king of Extreme Long Range bullets, for good reason, but for non-competitive long range shooting, it's really not pertinent. They're awesome bullets, but for the cost, you better REALLY need that bullet.

As hunting bullets, the HIGH impact velocity requirement of copper solids really precludes any long range hunting, especially for a 308win. It's just too hard to keep a heavy 308win above 2200fps downrange, and what copper solids do at 1800-2000 fps really can't be considered expansion. It also takes a pretty fast twist in a 308 to stabilize long copper solids - a 180grn solid is a LONG bullet, the 180 MTH is 125thou longer than the 178 ELD (1/8 of an inch!). Drop down to 150/165 class, and things come a little back in line, but we've given up impact momentum and BC, and paid more for the bullet to do it, so... eh...

One of the big advantages of the .308 is the quantity and variety of bullet options. Finding a bullet that’s accurate, lethal and affordable isn’t a big ask.

I’d also have no problem selecting a target bullet to be the “do all” like a Sierra MatchKing or one of the Hornady options. They will kill a deer deader than Elvis with no drama.
