What are my Tariqs really worth?

Hi all,

About a year ago I came across a guy selling a pair of Tariq pistols, and managed to pick them up for about C$450 for the both. One of them is a regular looking Tariq, good shape and with the Tariq grips, the other is more or less straight out of the box, but is parkerized and has what look like homemade rosewood grips, and has arabic writing on both sides of the slide, rather than the "MADE IN IRAQ" stamp.

I originally expected them to be worth about as much as a Helwan pistol, maybe a little more as they are very solid guns, but I recently started looking into it, and they seem to be going for pretty insanely high prices. Does anyone know what the usual going price is/whether I got the deal of a lifetime here?

Edit: It should be noted I'm from Canada, and as far as I know, there's no reason we're not allowed to have/buy/sell Iraqi firearms here.

Yes, LOTS of paperwork, as for price, well, in canada the price will be vastly different due to the paperwork (sorry but it really pisses me off that you can get sub 300 (candian) dollar SVT-40's, and well you are hard pressed to find one for less than a grand in the US)

and the price will reflect that, also the import competition/availability will be different.
that said, aren't the Tariq licensed copies of the browning HP (don't know which one)

Here they would be most likely smuggled war trophies and hence not as likely on the open market.

An incredible deal, at least by US standards. Here in the States the only source of Tariqs is GIs returning from the Middle East willing to risk their careers. This is not WWII and our military doesn't look kindly on soldiers bringing home guns from the battlefield.

The Tariqs are copies of the Beretta 951.

Didn't know you were allowed to own handguns in Canada.

Seriously?

I don'd think they are pocket pistols in .25

That's the Beretta 950 you're thinking of. Beretta's model numbers never made any sense to me.

As for the OP, I've also love to see some pics!

Hey all,

Thanks for the quick replies.

Sounds like I did get a deal.

We're not allowed to have handguns with barrels shorter than 4 1/8th in., or anything in .25 or .32 unless it's for "legitimate target shooting". You also need to pay more for your gun liscence initially. I personally have a bigger collection of them than most of the Americans I know. :p

The Tariq is indeed a copy of the Beretta 1951/Beretta Brigadeer. They're suprisingly some of the best made guns I own, in the sense that you could probably run one over with a tank and it would still work. I don't think it's particularly accurate, but I'm also not much of a shot, so it might just be me. They're also beautifully simple - basically just two springs and a barrel.

I do not have a camera at the moment, so you guys will have to make do with one incredibly lousy picture taken when I bought them. I have some more someplace, so maybe I can fix that later. I believe the wood-gripped Tariq is the same one that was being sold on frontierfirearms.ca a year or two back, since it seems unlikely there's more than one of them kicking around.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the grip has some abrasion damage right above the inlayed coin. If anyone can recommend a good way to buff it out without destroying the plastic, it would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what they are going for, but I did get an inside scoop that there will be some imported into the US this year. I would like to add one to my collection and hope that the price will not be too high.

$450 for two is a good deal in Canada too! They were selling for about $350 after tax when the dealers had them a year or so back.....I just made a deal for one at $490 and I'm stoked!
It's supposed to be in real nice shape with a couple of mags (one ten rounder) and shoots well too!
Looking forward to it's arrival...
