Stingers are too darn expensive. I've been shooting mostly value pack stuff, but they just don't have the reach and drop way too much when I'm shooting prairie dogs.

I bought some of the Aguila 30gr. .22lr Super Maximum Hollow Point, but I have not been impressed with its accuracy so far out of my 10/22. I fired about 20 rounds of it at the rifle range last week and the shots seem to go left and right while the Winchester Dynapoint 40gr. are pretty much centered on the target.

Today I was shooting prairie dogs with .223, .17 and .22lr. The Winchester Dynapoint was dropping so badly it was unbelievable while the Aguila .22lr Super Maximum Hollow Point was shooting pretty much to point of aim most of the time. Bagged a few dogs with the Aguila, but I think I got MAYBE two with the Dynapoints. I really need to use high velocity ammo or it's like throwing rocks. Can anybody recommend some cheap, but accurate high velocity ammo for my 10/22? Stingers are too expensive and 36gr. high velocity is still kinda heavy IMO. I'm gonna do some more testing with the Aguila .22lr Super Maximum Hollow Point and see what I can come up with.

I have had good luck with Federal ammo.

The 550 Bulk pack of 38 grain copper plated form walmart at 8.50 per brick.
Federal Lightning is a little more expensive at like 12.50, and also good in my 10/22 and Biathalon basic both of which like high velocity fodder better.

Target ammo PMC scormaster is the best under 20.00 per brick. Around here 14.00.

Sounds like CCI Mini-Mags fit the bill perfectly. They're cheaper than Stingers, but certainly more expensive than bulk packs. They are excellent performers for the price (cloverleafs out of my bolt action .22 at 50 yards) :)

CCI Mini-Mag Hollow Point 1077 85 16 45 1.1/.95/.90= .98â€

CCI Stinger 1293 115 24 77 1.48/ 1.285/1.5/ 1.24= 1.37â€

Eley Quik-Shok 1102 99.7 42 149 1.68/1.68/1.73= 1.69

As you can see fro mteh above chart, the MiniMags (even out of a pistol) are very consistent, and shot nearly the best group.

Try the Winchester Power Point . . .

Most accurate .22 long rifle HIGH VELOCITY ammo I ever used is the Winchester 40 grain Power Point. It's a hollowpoint round and shoots into a half inch at 50 yards from my Savage/Anshutz Model 54 Sporter. :),

Is also very accurate from other .22 rifles, including a Marlin 39A, a Thompson Contender .22 Classic, and a heavy barreled Ruger 10/22.
