Hi...
Busy day at the shooting ranges yesterday.
After breakfast, my son and I went over to one of the gun clubs and tested some loads on paper.
Good success with my 180gr loads for my .357Mag revolvers. Accuracy was excellent out to 15yds in three different Ruger BlackHawks. I need to load up a couple hundred more of those to test at 25yds and then 50yds.
Did well with my .45Colt SBH and Contender at 25 yds with Hornady 250gr HP/XTPs. Nice tight groups...will need to adjust the sights on the Contender about an inch to the right. If that proves success, then we will be ready to test those loads at 50yds.
My son shot his Ruger 1911 in 10mm very well out to 25yds. He is still having keyholing issues with the new Taylor .357Mag...we tested it with Hornady 158gr HP/XTPs and it keyholes them as well as plated bullets.
He is pretty disgusted considering this is a brand new revolver. He is going to give them a call and see what they think.
After about three hours, we took a break for lunch. After lunch, we went over to a different gun club that has steel plates on the handgun range.
We spent about three hours shooting dueling trees and steel plates with a variety of handguns.
We shot somewhere around 250 rounds each of .45Auto, 10mm, .357Mag and 9mm.
A small number of .45AutoRim and a few hundred rounds of .22LR.
At the end of the day, I have two .30cal ammo cans full of empty brass to tumble plus a few hundred more in plastic cartridge boxes.
Other than an hour break for lunch at Chic-fil-A, we spent the entire day from 9AM until 4:30PM shooting.
Altogether, we had eight .357s, four .45Colts, two .22LR, two 10mm, one 9mm, three .45Auto and one .45AutoRim, plus one semi automatic HK rifle in .22LR. My son may have had another one or two 9mm handguns with him that I didn't shoot.
Fun day shooting...guns to clean and brass to run through the tumblers.
