What did you shoot today?

Shot My S&W Model 15-3, Ruger Security Six, Glock 17, and Ruger SR-1911. Shot the best with the 1911, and thinking of getting some new hogue grips for the Security six, .357 kicks quite a bit.

I've been wanting a ruger .22lr semi auto, I heard that disassembly is a pain on the earlier rugers, is that true?

Disassembly is easy, reassembly is where people have some issues. Volquartsen makes a part you can install to make it easier to put back together, but once you figure out how to do it, it isn't that bad.

Got out the old 1916 Winchester 1894 in 32-40. Had the best grouping I have ever had with it with my hand loads. That old rifle sure can shoot. Now time to go load up some more!

Star BM 9mm.
Learned from the local pro. gunsmith that what Seems to be a fairly infreq. (partial) extraction problem is Not the extractor.
Using ammo stronger than 115 grain "tng" or "range ammo" is the solution. 124 grain ammo today made a real difference.

A small benefit might also be gained by replacing the weak recoil spring.

Today was a rare day with little wind, so I headed out back to fine tune a coupe rifles:

REM 700 XCR Tactical in .223; I tested 4 new loads just varying the OAL. All produced 5 shot sub MOA, but one cut at just .5" so it's the winner. I also zero'd my new Nosler M48 in .270 for a 130 Nosler BT load that I developed earlier. Also zero'd my son's Mod 7 in .260REM in it's new HS Precision stock. Then shot some steel with it at 200 and 300 yards. I'm really liking that little gun. Also verified the zero on my 3GUN AR to get ready for a match next SAT. Don't normally take that many rifles at once (range is out back, no need), but it was kind of nice rotating while waiting for barrels to cool.

After messing with the rifles I got some practice in for Tuesday night's IDPA match. I've been having some issue with he long targets and ended up in 6th place last match due to a couple crappy stages with long targets.

Walkalong

A most excellent range day! Got to love your choices too: a .38 Super, a .41 Magnum, and a 9mm. just to round out line-up!

Horrible pistol shooting today with Gen 5 Glock 17, 43X, P226 SAO, and P220. I did the best with the P220, P226 was next best but overall it was like trying to shoot after waking from a 10 year coma where my muscles atrophied, actually I think a someone who has done this might have had better results than me today. After dealing with that frustration, I decided to sight in a couple of AR15s, only to find out that the magpul trigger guard was blocking my magazines, apparently I didn't check this after assembling the lowers. Never had to fit one of these before but sure enough I need to file them both down. After that I decided to shoot my AK to test magazines that I had to file to get them to fit, that went without issue.

Still a better day than having to go to work. Happy Birthday America.

Fixing to go shoot some .22s; my old High Standard snapped twice on Tuesday, I have cleaned it thoroughly.
Will make fireworks with .45 ACP, I discovered my primer inventory was off and I have more LP than SP, so will shoot more bigbore for a good while.

Well cleaned .22 shot fine.
.45, too except for one that would not chamber. Did it miss the gauge? Will check.

Gauged, plunked. Just One Of Those Things. It will go in the practice box.

On the Fourth we usually get the kayaks out and head across the river for beers with friends who live on the water. Loaned the 'yaks out to other friends, however, so I sighted in the 308 Tikka that had been re-scoped, a new Savage B17 FV, and tested different ammo in Savage Mk II. Neither Fed red bulk nor ancient super X impressed, so will be fed to handguns while I try Wolf match and CCI mini-mags next time out. No problems with any of the guns, and enjoyed the big black knob on the T3. I may have to put one on the 6mm creed as well.

Guy next to me lit up a 458 socom, rattled my timbers, and after I put earplugs in place under my muffs, he mounted the silencer that he had all along. Ah well, good to celebrate the 4th by turning some money into noise.

Today, I shot my Savage BSEV 22 rf. bolt action rifle. That's the model with the Buck Rodgers look. Shot paper, thumb tacks and rocks on the backstop. Weather was great. We were on a range for rimfires only. Shooting partner was shooting an nice Kimber 22 rifle, He also shot paper, thumb tacks and rocks. Neat day.

Hi...
Decided to test out some handloads in my son's Tikka .308 and Rem700 in .270.
He did a ladder test with both rifles...168gr bullets in the .308 and 110gr in his .270. I don't have the powder loads at hand but pretty much everything stayed under 2" at 100yds. He wasn't terribly impressed and is convinced that both rifles can do much better.
Oh, well...lots of bullets and powder combinations to try.
He is really enjoying reloading and experimenting with different components... it's pretty obvious that I have created a monster.

We also tested a 69gr Match .223 factory load in my new AR15. Seemed to shoot a bit better at 100yds than the Hornady Frontier 55gr loads we shot previously.
Still need to test some of the heavier 77gr bullets to see how they shoot.

We moved over to the handgun range and fired a few rounds but it got so hot and humid that we called it a day well before noon.
Heat index was at 95°F with nary a hint of a breeze. We were both dripping sweat and our shirts were soaked.
We will try again tomorrow.

Shot my PSA 300 blk pistol build I put a new cmc trigger in it huge difference in how it shot!
