What did you shoot today?

I used to use paracord but bullet fragments did a number so I upgraded to a small chain and 2 carabiners. It's a game changer. Plus, the steel rings a lot louder when suspended by chains which is cool.

I have had real good luck with it....but then it is a personal "range" and not even in a club setting.....so a "session" is around 50 rounds....more of 22 of any flavor including 223, 22-250....bla bla bla.

You don't want the thin stuff you want the real thick stuff. In this link:
https://www.paracordplanet.com/cord-comparison-chart/

I want to say mine is 1/4 inch stuff....I know it has a bunch of strands in it, is a bit of a pain to cut with a sharp knife, I usually use side cutters or even bolt cutters. Yes you will see where the cord gets chewed up, but with all the strands it usually lasts quite a bit. I have only cut one fast and that was due to a direct hit on the hole....but the plate lived ....I want to say I hit it with a soft 6.5 load.

Chain is good as well, I have found I like the cord, you can play games with it trying to get it swinging.....you could do the same with chain also.

I am lucky to leave my steel out all year....that stuff is heavy....and the cord down there now has been there all winter. I have not shot much as I need a swamp buggy to get down there now, only testing some 30 remington loads...about 20 rounds so far this year and some 22, finally bought a harratage rough rider single action 22.....I had been looking at those things for years, finally grabbed one for 120....and I do say it is fun.

Give the HEAVY cord a shot, you might like it.

I am going to look through my stuff....I want to say I have a video of that hit....I will try to find it, going to rain all weekend so what else is there to do....put new tubes in my lawn mower tires....yea that sounds like fun.

I used the last hour of daylight to shoot 40 rounds of 223 rem from my savage 10 and 10 rounds of 7mm 08.

Temp 32 degrees snowing with 20 mph wind from between 7 and 8 o'clock. That's 20 rounds at 100 yds.

Shot 7 rounds on steel and 3 on paper at 200 pulled first shot 2.5 high the other 2 were a quarter in high in 1 hole. 5 inch wide. On cold fingers.

Put exactly one round through my Henry Single Shot in .308...... Then cleaned it. Doing a barrel break-in procedure on it. Don't know if that's necessary but I did it once years ago on a brand new 25-06 and it shoots great. There's no way to prove that barrel break in procedures work but I figure they can't hurt and I've got the time to devote to doing it.

Put fifty .22 rounds through the handguns(rough rider & Buckmark) before the weather gets crappy.

The dead orange dot is five rounds courtesy of the heritage from about fifteen yards. Really not bad for me. The rest of it is an actual improvement from a few weeks ago. Getting everything on an eight inch target was a dicey proposition. And getting one full cylinder on the bullseye is a nice little surprise from the rough rider............. I'm just trying not to think about how lonely it looks in there.

On Saturday afternoon 4/13/19 I hosted my third annual "cabin fever" muzzleloader shoot here on our farm.
Despite a low turnout, a good time was had by all. We shot 5 different targets and the 150 yd gong.
After the shooting events were finished, prizes were awarded for high scores. A ham and bean dinner was provided by mrs farmer.
Unfortunately I didnt have my booshway this time.(#1 son had to babysit) I was so busy shooting and taking care of targets and generally hosting duties that I neglected to take even ONE PICTURE. Something that I truly regret.
Here is a token pic of my rifle atop a pile of targets.....that will have to suffice until next year. 20190413_182533.jpg
The prizes that I gave to the winners were all Rough Rider one armed trapper knives. (I know...they're not made in the USA....I caught grief over that already)
This year I bought one for myself for hosting the event . 15553378159564294565320894284732.jpg
I will definitely get pics next year!

What did I shoot today?
Answer to that ? is terribly!
Decided to try to beat the rain this A.M., put on the mud boots, go to the "range' to shoot another SA for the "Old West" Revolver Challenge.
Was gonna do both the 15 yard and 25 yard.
Shot @ 15 yd. first. Horrendous! Too much coffee?, I don't know. Get over it and try the 25 yard. Searching range bag, can not find the second target printed off before leaving home.
You know where I found it?
Yup!, under the first target. Now I have two bad targets that will not be posted. Oh well, fired at my paper plate targets till the rain came about the time the ammo was gone.:)

The Southern Missouri Rangers held their monthly “Old Coot’s Shoot” today; a midweek shoot that anyone can attend, but mostly retirees since Wednesday is a work day for younger coots. Seven old coots and one charming cootess (lady coot? Hen?) played cowboy for a couple of hours this morning. Cloudy and cool but thankfully dry.

I shot a pair of Ruger Old Vaqueros, and a Uberti 1873, all in .357 Mag, and a Browning BSS 12 gauge with blackpowder loads in all guns. I had one miss in five stages, so was not clean for the day, but times were fairly good. Really a nice way to get from one weekend to the next! :)

Guns were cleaned this afternoon, so I’m kicking back.

I'm gonna show up and shoot cowboy with you someday!

Nothing! I got to the range.......set up targets.....set up.chronograph......went to get ammo out of the car.........

Oh no.....left range bag in the basement.

Checked out some patterns from my Mossberg 500A turkey gun that hasn't even been out in a few years. Patterns real well at 30 yards which is about as far as I would expect to shoot from where my blind is located this year. Then fired one round of .308 from the Henry single shot; doing a barrel break-in procedure on it and have no idea if that's necessary with a new barrel but I do it anyway just to be sure. Put 50 rounds of 22lr through the Ruger Single Six just for fun and practice because it hasn't been out all winter. Also went through 90 rounds of 22lr with the Henry lever gun fine tuning the elevation & windage adjustments on the cheap Tasco Red Dot that I put on it because I've never owned a Red Dot sight and wanted to play around with one. Still not sure if it's gonna stay on there but it was fun just to plink with after the adjustments were dialed in. My only complaint with it so far is that it looks too big to be mounted on a slim and trim little .22 lever gun but that's just an appearance complaint because it makes for a fun plinking session. Maybe I'll just get used to it. Sure am glad that spring is finally beginning to arrive. IMG_5352.JPG

My new to me S&W 5906.

I shot 10 rounds and it was shooting low. Adjusted the sights and put 10 rounds inside a 4" circle at 10 yards. First time ever shooting a DA/SA pistol.

Decided to shoot it in my defensive pistol match this morning. This just minutes after shooting it for the first time. I shot as well as I normally do. The S&W ran flawlessly and hits exactly where it's aimed.

IDPA match with Plastic M&P, flat magazine base plates to fit CCP Box.
I used to shoot a lot of CDP. Seems like 8+1 is tougher than it used to be.
Back to ESP 10+1 next time.

Hi...
After last evening's rain it didn't look like it would be a good idea to go to the range but my son talked me into going.
We stopped for breakfast and drove over to one of the gun clubs where we are members.
My son shot his HK .22LR semi auto carbine, a couple of 9mm pistols, one of his .45ACP pistols and a couple rounds through his Ruger 1911 in 10mm.

I took my brand new never fired Cimarron SAA clone in .44Spl, Lipsey's Ruger flat top in .44Spl, a Taurus stainless DA in .44Spl and my S&W 1917 in .45AutoRim.
Shot a couple of different handloads in the .44Spl handguns...a fairly light load with 6.3gr of Unique under a 240gr LSWC for the Cimarron and Taurus and a more potent load of 7.3 gr of Unique under the same bullet for the Ruger.
Shot a pretty light handload of 4.3grs of Bullseye in the 1917 over a cast 230gr lead round nose bullet.

All the handloads functioned quite well with good accuracy out to 25yds.
I am really liking this Cimarron...accurate and well fitted with very nice case coloring.
My son really liked it as well. Ran about 50-60 rounds through it and about the same through the Taurus.
Shot about 40 rounds through the Ruger flat top and about the same number through the 1917.
Shot a few rounds on paper but most of them were at various steel targets from 7-25yds. Just love the sound of lead on steel!

Fun day and the sun came out and it warmed up to 73°F.

9E7BCEA3-1C1E-43B6-87D9-E180D56189F2.jpeg I try to attend at least one 600 yard event per month. Sunday I shot a two target score of 189 with an average group size of 3.5, wasn’t my best but enough for the win.

The wind caught a couple shots otherwise they’d be pretty small groups.

Did some target practice this afternoon with these two.
Revolver is my Interarms Virginia Dragoon in 44 magnum. My loads of 17.5 grains of H240 under my cast 225 HP.
HUH? some may say. Yeah some old powder that still works fine! Any "Old-Timers" on this forum will remember H240.

The little pistol is a Micro "Desert Eagle" in 380 Auto, of course, loaded with again my hand-rolled ammo of 3.0 grains of Titegroup under a 95 grain FMJ. Fun load for the little guy.

Ain't gonna show the targets, cuz, as I said, I was PRACTICING!
