On EVERY gun/ammo site and nearly every single gun shop I go into has no Brown Bear at all! 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 7.62x54r, .308, nothing! I can hardly find even any Silver Bear.

Brown Bear shoots better and faster than the other Russian steel cased alternatives from all the tests I've done. They recently upgraded from lacquer to poly coating, and have very good QA on all their rounds, and now it's all gone? What gives? I know the Barnaul plant makes them, and I used to see some calibers in Barnaul marked boxes too, but now not even that. The whole supply dried up.

Hell, even Ulyanovsk, you know, the plain white box with the stylized black bullseye on it, is nowhere to be found. The ONLY manufacturer of any steel Russian cartridges anymore is Tulammo which is just rebranded wolf. Not bad, but not great for new production Russian ammo.

Is some s***storm going on in Russia right now and Tula is buying out everybody? Are all the other companies going bankrupt? Is some branch of the government blocking the imports?

I just gotta know gents, what's going on? I have an SKS, an AK, and two Mosins and this is starting to worry me.

The other brands are still widely available online. I'd say your local stores either got a good deal on Tulammo or else they didn't think anyone wanted something different (for what it's worth, I mostly see Tulammo in my LGS so I just buy online and it usually works out cheaper).

military shooters has the Brown Bear... so does SG Ammo I just ordered 520 rounds of .308...

Sportsmans Guide recently filled some Brown Bear back orders for me, so I suspect more is on its way at other retailers as well.

Same ammo, in a different box is available from Academy as "Monarch" steel cased ammo.

I don't know about faster, but averaged across all my guns I'll dispute it being significantly more accurate than the others.

With signs of Europe on the verge of economic collapse, maybe suppliers in Russia are not keen to exporting ammo . They might foresee some troubles ahead . Just my speculations. The thing is , holiday is less than a month and ammo usually have sales by centerfiresystems and aimsurplus but i didnt it either. It seems dry for now. Back then brown bear and many other brands were plentiful. The only ones being sold are the Yugo surplus in brasscased . They are military grade ammo but corrosive. I still have some left to finish off. The few hundreds of Ulyanovsk Hp i have im reserving it for the STHF , for they are quite devastating on flesh.

The Yugo FMJs are still the best deal out there.http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=A76239Yugo
