I shot two does so far this season and neither one of them left much of a blood trail. I had to rely on watching them drop. I shot a perfect double lung shot on a small doe in a corn field, ran only a few yards. I looked for a blood trail just because I can and found nothing where I shot her. I found some dribbles closer to the body though. Today I just shot a large doe. Angle shot from a stand. In the lung and out further back She angled away when I shouted at her before the shot. I tried placing the shot farther up her shoulder but to no avail. It still ended bad. But, she did die very quickly but not before doing a nose dive into a deep ravine. Did I mention I forgot to bring a tow rope? Anyway, No blood trail there either just some dribbles by the body. I did find a pee trail though. I'm using a 20 ga with Hornady sst's. Last year I used a 12 ga with cheep crap and that doe left a river. Is the lack of blood trail a result of different ga bullets, or different brand bullets, or something else?
