What happens when a primer won't seat....

The only primer I’ve had go off unintentionally was one I dropped and lost. It got sucked up into the vacuum beater bar the next time I vacuumed the loading area and popped.

I, too have had, on rare occasions, a sideways primer and even a backwards one once in a blue moon. In these cases it’s put the case into the decapper and slowly pop the primer out.

Stay safe!

I have crushed plenty of primers, side ways primers, even a backwards primer and cram rifle primers into pistol cases. I get a high one every now and then, put it on the press and make it fit. Never set one off but I do one step loading operations so primers are never inserted in the presence of propellants.

Internet photo. When you have a jam, dont force it. STOP. There are others. One Hornady progressive blew the primer tube and set the powder on fire.

This brought back memories...
This picture was posted originally on my Home (Local) forum.
It is many years old 7-8 years, and was done by a Commercial/Licensed Reloader-NOT- by a Hobby type of reloader..
This man sold A LOT of reloaded ammo here around the Indianapolis area.
It occurred on a Dillon 650, and the Owner was slightly injured by flying metal parts to the face.
This person posted it to our local forum to remind us to ALWAYS wear eye/hearing protection
Just thought that I would add to the picture==Be SAFE out there..Bill.

I've squished a few in sideways so far on the 650, inserted a couple upside down. Got a few with stubborn crimps that seated halfway then felt like hard stop. Most (99%?) if there's an issue, it is obvious in the handle feel and I catch before its an issue.

We have big & little Dyson vacuums. Ultimate animal something is the big one & it's pretty strong. Little one is one of those stick types. But I vacuum up live primers often. My gun room is a 2nd floor bedroom with carpeted floor. So if I don't notice I dropped one or it launches from ski jump, vacuum gets it. They make a heck of a racket in the little stick one spinning around the collection bowl, but have never set one off that way.

I need to quit doing that. I don't think it would hurt anything, but my luck it won't decide to go off until mrs cmv using vacuum - which will result in me getting hurt :)
