If you don't want a pistol grip or conversion, just buy a Saiga. Cheapest route, and they're plenty good.

That just about qualifies as disinformation. A lot of the information on that link is opinion, at best, and some of it is downright incorrect. But since it's the internet, if it's out there, it must be correct, right?

For one thing, VEPRs are not the only AK variants coming into this country built on LMG receivers, although the author of the information on that page seems to think so. Century M70s are, too. Furthermore, it isn't difficult at all to swap stocks on an AK, as that page asserts. If it has a protruding upper tang, it's actually ratyher easy. On at least one of my rifles, a change is as easy as three mintues worth of work with a screw driver.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I've long been a gun enthusiast, but have only recently decided to start purchasing my own collection. Unfortunately, I chose the worst possible time. I remember seeing NIB WASR rifles in 2004 in a pawnshop for $200. I looked at how crude they were and how lousy the furniture was (not knowing a whole lot about AKs at this point) and said "no way." Now that you can sell them for three times that amount, I really regret it.

Oh well. I'll wait until prices come back down before I buy one. I doubt they'll come back down to what they were, but hopefully they'll get better when the panic dies down. If not, I guess I'll go without. I can concentrate more on cowboy guns (lever action rifles and SA revolvers), which have gone up in price but not near to the extent of "assault" weapons.

I dont really know much about the prebans and non prebans I dont get it ? they added parts so you can have them or something? I just want a ak47 around $600-$800. I know all ak's are good but I just dont want no major problems with mine. I have heard mags dont fit, Trigger problems, I don't want a m4/m16/bushmaster. Those have alot of problems with gas piston cleanings. Ak you can shoot all day hardly anyjams those m16/m4s jam quite offten.

Ill look into yugo/sar-1/wasr10/sagia.
