Anyone know?

I've been eyeing some nice .22 lever guns. I want a quality shooter, not a safe queen, though. The Henry Golden Boy is a real looker, but what happens to that shiny receiver when it meets the real world?:)

I will say, though, I've been leaning Marlin 39A, after holding one.

Thoughts?

It's some kind of plated zinc or other cast alloy. It cannot be refinished or replated. No repair on it of any kind.

The action on a Henry feels very smooth, but the Marlin 39A is far superior at the cost of more weight.

When I was looking to buy my son a lever .22 for high school graduation, I shot a couple of Henry's. Once I saw and felt the Marlin, and shot them, there was never a chance of getting anything else.

I don't consider it a cost. Maybe for a kid's rifle it would be, but not for me. I consider it a benefit.

My recessed synthetic stock 10/22 is light, even with a compact scope on it. It's a bit too light for really accurate offhand shooting, though it's a perfectly good plinker.

The Marlin, on the other hand, balances and settles nicely. I was really impressed. At 6 3/4 lb. for a 24" barrel all-steel tube-fed gun with a good amount of walnut on it, it's not at all overweight.:)

Guess I just sold myself on the Marlin, again.:D

Thanks for the reply!
