The standard pistol grip on my Wasr-10 isn't very ergonomic IMO. If you're using a different one please tell me how good it is and where you ordered it from.

I use the TAPCO "SAW" grip on my "built-up" AK.
Its way better than that standard AK grip that seems designed to fit a child's hand.

Actually, they used man-sized grips up until 1959 (when they adopted the AKM) [maroon grip is a current issue Romanian; black grip is a late issue Bulgarian AK-47 grip]

I have one (and wish I had more) of these old style grips on my 'go-to' Kalash.

Barring you finding a box of 'em in your attic, the Tapco Saw grip is top notch kit.

I have some kind of Israeli grip I got from CDNN. It's comfortable enough for me.

The Tapco SAW grips are a good shape, but they feel flimsy to me. The besy I've found are the Yugoslav grips.

I've used several, including the standard commie grip, the SAW, a made in China so-called "ergo" grip, and my favorite, the real ERGO grip.

They have 2 AK grips, each with an option for either suregrip(soft rubber feel), or rigid.

I went with the cheaper one in suregrip, and am very satisfied. Also, this grip is made in the USA.

I have one that is ergonomic, made of wood, and has both finger grooves and a thumb groove. VERY comfortable, sadly I do not recall where I purchased it from nor can I take a picture.

The FAL grip is alright, a definite improvement over factory. However, the BEST grip for an AK I have ever experienced is the Ergo grip. I am also very interested in the Israeli grip but have no hands on experience with it.

I have this one on my WASR and really like it. Made by Command Arms (TDI Arms of Isreal). Very comfy, and the rubber is just the right ammount of grip, IMHO. Decent deal at $30 too, though you may be able to find it cheaper from other sellers. Seems the actual manufacturer/importer of an item is usually in the higher end of the prce range for thing, in my experiance. Seems counter-intuitive, but seems to be pretty common.
here's mine.

they have several others too. http://www.commandarms.com/categories.asp?cID=11

Just watch your parts count, as they are not U.S. made, so YMMV on what, if any effect one of these will have on your 922(r) imported parts count.(I bring it up, as I was not aware they were Isreali made until fairly recently, when the subject of grips came up, and someone pointed it out to me)

I don't like the SAW grip. I'm sure it feels good, but doesn't look right on an AK. It doesn't match historically. JMO

I know some AKs come with bulky black U.S. made plastic grips.

Personally, I like the Warsaw Pact bakelite grips, like the dark red Romanian.

This is the one I got from ATI. I love the ergo grips and this one is the one I've liked best so far, but the important thing is what feels best to you. But, here's a pic so you can see...

The ones I like best are the ones I make myself. They are pretty easy if you do any woodworking. This one I made out of a piece of oak from an old pallet. I made another with finger grooves, and another made out of purple heart wood that looks really good.

I got the idea from looking at Ironwood Designs website. They have some nice stuff.

For those of you who went with the larger grips, can you still reach and work the controls easily with your hand on the grip?

The factory grip allows this, not all the aftermarket grips do.

However, the BEST grip for an AK I have ever experienced is the Ergo grip.

Same with me. I'm looking to buy another one to go on one of my AK's, a Fort Benning WASR.

I tortured myself with all the pistol grips on the market. Looked at just about everything available.

Those 'ergo' grips are really nice. I almost bought one, but decided it would throw off the AK look. Ended up getting the SAW grip, couldn't be happier. Looks like it belongs there and feels great, also very solid. Nice storage compartment underneath too.

Also understand some of the 'ergo' grips place your hand a little lower from the receiver than others. Matter of preference really, but something to think about.
it looks like a molded turd

Heh, isn't that the truth.
